OHH, I think coon are the greatest critters on earth! I can't stand to kill them, but the dogs need there reward every now and again. When you really think about how smart those those things are it really make you respect them. If it takes my dogs a long time and a mile to put an old smart one up. Kill season or not I won't knock it out. I want it to go on making more little smart ones to challange my hounds for yrs to come. For me the thrill is to hear the hounds run and tree, not to see how many coon I can carry into the fur shop. I do keep close records on how many I tree and see during the kill season, it's just nice to know how many I COULD have put up on the strechersLOL.

Mon I took Rain and Pipper to a smal woods 1st cut out. There was something crossing the road when i pulled into the drive. I think it was a cat, but not for sure. Rain wanted to pursue it but Pipper didn't open so I pretty much knew it wasen't a coon. So I had to fetch her. Then Rain ran something out of the back of the woods pretty hard and fast. Pipper was standing at the edge of the woods watching her. So she was running off game for sure rather it be deer or a fox. Good news was she came back pretty fast on her own. So we lead them up and headed else where. Next woods Pipper slammed a coon and looked good doing it. Rain was checking the tree pretty good. I tied her up and she did start barking pretty good at it. Next drop was a tiny patch I'd never been in. There was nothing but rabbits in it. Good to know i'll pursue that next bunny season!!!
Tues I let the old dog out to run with Rain and Pipper. Queenie was having a hay day. She's VERY track minded and drives you nuts running track after track. I think the 3 of them put up 2 or 3 coon before Pipper and Queenie stayed hooked on a tree. But the coon was there looking down at me.
Wed. I took Pipper alone to a river bottom. It's nice cause there is a woods hooked to it that I can drop into from another road and then drive around the cornor and hunt the river. Well the woods almost turned into a disaster. Pipper struck and ran a pretty good track till about 20 yrds from the tree the coon was in. There was a dead limb coming out of the creek into the tree the coon was in. Well Pipper was working all around this tree. She finally got down in the creek about 20 yrds from the tree. Well she struck another hot track. In fact just about as soon as she opend Laura yelled that something was running up behind her (she about pi$$ed her pants). There went Pipper, heading twards the road and a field. I told her to get to the road to grab up Pipper if she can. Well Pipper crawled into a field tile. Laura got there in time to pull her out by the tail thank god. So next drop was down the river. She treed real fast but only stayed a few min. I saw there was a coon. She work around the area for a while and went back to treeing where she hit the mother load of coon. I found 3 coon and one squirrle in the tree. We had a hay day playing with them, they were running all about in the top og the tree with Pipper pulling the crap out of the grape vines in that tree. After a fun time there I went to head out, which we were only a few yards into the bottom anyway. And I saw a coon in another tree. So I cut her loose, she ran right to the tree and treed.
Thurs night we had a bit of a cast. Brooks brought a friend of his and a mutal friend with him. So we put 4 dogs in the woods and ran it like an hr. hunt. I won't go into it but it was a good time and we saw 2 coon in all. But I did make a drop on the way home, Pipper was drained and only made a few track barks and went right to treeing where she had the coon at the edge of a swamp.

Thanks!
Well not much to speak of from last night. I was watching the race as I got dressed to hunt so I didn't check out the weather Rador. Well as I was driving to the woods I noticed the lightening getting closer. I drop out on the River with Pipper and she struck pretty quick down the logging path. But never made much farther. It was real muddy and she was running the track back and forth between 3 tree's. She tree barked a few times on each tree and never did know which one it was in. I saw the coon sitting in one of the tree's. Well I moved her on down the path in hopes that she could get something going. But the coon must have know the storm was coming cause the tracks just were not there. Pipper work for another 45 min and never did anything. Then I herd a real big rummble of thunder and the lightening was getting out of hand. Just then Pipper let out 3 good tree barks. So I waited a few min. and nothing else. So I called her in and hurried out to the truck. We never did get much rain just a lot of flashing light!!

Well I have been working a lot of hrs, and rushing home to get to the woods. Whiskey is back in the saddle, he has a new wound on his front leg. Where the upper pad is he almost cut it off! I don't have a clue how. But he is still hunting good, just hurts a little when he hugs the tree to hard. He looke good in the woods and I hunted him with a male dog last week and he didn't mind. In fact they jumped off each other all night treeing. I was worried he wouldn't hunt with another dog after him getting jumped last month. So thats good news. Pipper has been on a down slide for a few months now but last night she looked good. She did have Whiskeys help. But I have been taken her with Queen on the weekends during the day to look for mushrooms. Her and Queen have gotten to 2 coon one out of a den and one out of a hole. I think this goot Pipper going again. I hope. Well I haven gotten any got pics just this one from last night with to of my friends. This was the one on the lefts 1st hunt.

Didn't have a very good week of hunting, it's been dry here. But last night that all changed and Whiskey looked better. I hunted with Brooks, Tina dog and I think he was at the tree 1st all night. She dosen't waste much time getting there to back him tough. We saw coon on three tree's. Only had one tree where we couldn't find the coon but it was a den tree. Tomarrow night i'm going to a world Quilifying hunt with Whiskey. Were just trying to pick up a cast when!

Man I used to love coonhunting, competition hunted several years but knees finally gave out and I lost my best dog and just quit and started rabbit hunting. My best was a walker named RANGER, he was a UKC dual grand champ, A NKC dual grand Champ, An AKC dual champ and a PKC silver champ, he was really special to me. He dies at 11 years old treeing, just had a stroke and fell over, my son killoed the coon and we buried Ranger and the coon in the same grave behind my house under a bil old red oak tree. I never found a dog that suited me after him, found some good ones but just not the right one, then knees went bad and had to give it up but still got a many pics and fond memories to cherish for life. By the way my best dog was a walker but my favorite breed was redbone with B&T second favorite, just love the looks of the red and black dogs. Here is a pic of Ranger when he was 9 years old
