No, kill season is out. And your not aloud to use live coon to train with. I have a pet coon I work the dogs with. We have a lic. for him so I can do it and not get the game warden all bent out of shape!!!!
The thing about a darn coondog is they hunt all night. So They don't came back to the area till morning. I can't stand to let them be lost that long. To many St. RT. rds where I live. Plus I have about $400 hanging around there necks Tracking collar, shock collar and lighted collar. The tracking collar is great, I can have them on my lead usally in an hr. The lighted collar works good to if there in the fields or on the roads, there easy to see. I've tried the coat thing a few times, no luck. But I always end up finding my hounds. I always loose them bad the night before deer season opens and it flipps my out.

Last night the coon didn't seem to be running, we went early. 1st drop it was just starting to get dark. Whiskey worked an old track and did tree after about 10 min. It was a den tree, might have been an after noon coon track. Next drop was a little woods we cut him in and he went right down the middle of it and work back. Never opened and came back to the truck. That's a 1st form him, he's never came back to the truck. So we loaded him and went down the road to the next drop. He opened after a few min and threw his locate right away. I waited and made him tree about 8 min. He never really treed hard till we got there. But he had the coon sitting at the top of a really tall tree. I had taken Laura along to show her that Whiskey was treeing alone and showing me coon. So I was happy she got to see one. I think that coon had just came down from the den tree that was about 10 yrds away cause he sure didn't run much of a track. We cut him ut again but he went into the corn stubble and I have a strict rule about the dogs hunting in fields. There not going to get treed in a field. There aloud to work along the edge of one by the woods but not in it. In night hunts if you get dogs running in these fields. They push the coon out. The dog along the woods pops coon up all night, while the others are still falling all over tracks. Any way I lead him up and headed home after that.

I hunted with a friend last night and one of his old male Walker dogs, Snapper. They didn't look the greatest but they got the job done. I Think Whiskey was feeling out Snapper the 1st drop to see if he was mean after all that went on in his last night hunt. Snapper pulled up on a tree and treed for about 2 min and them left it. I think he pulled up a little short. Whiskey had opened and was working the track. The Whiskey got quite and Snapper started treeing. Whiskey went out in the field and was milling around. When we headed that way and started into Snapper Whiskey ran in and started treeing with him. The coon was there. So we walked them a litte ways and cut them again. Whiskey opened pretty fast and let out his locate in a hurry. Then Snapper settled onto the tree. They kept stopping but would go back to treeing every time. Then we heard a coyote mouthing off. It ran right in on them. We they had the coon there too. Then we made the trip on the river bottom. Whiskey Struck right away and Snapper went in deep. Snapper treed and Whiskey was working the track through the woods and treed with him. We saw a coon there. Cut them again and it took a while for them to get this one right. Whiskey would check a tree then Snapper would then Whiskey again. Snapper finally found the right tree and Whiskey quickly backed him up. It was along the pound in the middle of the woods. They had there coon. We made one last drop and again they were taking turns checking trees. They didn't take as long this time before they barked treed. But we couldn't find a coon in this huge tree. Were pretty sure it's a den. So we called it a night. When I got in at 1 am it was 68 degree's out. Big change from last weekend!

What happened with the coyote? Did the dogs get in a fight with it?

No I ran them off when I got to the tree. There lucky I didn't have a gun!
Well The wind was a blowing tonight! I wanted to go to an UKC hunt but I didn't want to get my dog lost so I stayed close to home. I made a dump in a little woods but Whiskey couldn't find anything and came back. So I took him to a friends big woods hoping he would get treed quick. I turned him out and he fell in the pit with the dead cow floating in about 5 foot of water. WOW did that ever stink, and he does too. Then he was off and got treed in the very back of the woods. I had no ideal where he was. I just started walking section by section till I heard him. He had the coon sitting at the top of the tree. By this time it was lighting pretty bad. So we called it a night. Just in time too the ran started hitting the truck prety hard!

I went south east for an RQE(it's a show to get in the World) and B+T sec yesterday. Rain my little female won the CH class and can be shown in the world which is in TN in Spetember. Whiskey got beat in aht CH class but won King of the show in the B+T sec. So it was a pretty good time. Not many dogs there so it wasen't much of a big deal. I didn't hunt cause I was tired from the 2 and 1/2 hr drive to get there and my back hurt. So we came home instead. I didn't want to make that drive at 2am.

Last night if you live in OH you know how badly the wind was blowing. Too bad even for me to be out in. So I had some coffe with a friend I haden't seen in a while. Lucky for me when i came home around 10pm the wind had just about died out all together. So it was on, I grabed Whiskey and my boots and light and off we went. I drop in a little woods that I had not been in yet. It has a hog barn in it and there always seems to be workers in it. But last night the whole place was dark. He struck pretty quick and did a nice job treeing on the 1st drop. I got to see the coon there but didn't hang around cause it was right beside the barn. Next drop he struck and ran the coon in a hole. So we walked across the road and cut out. He worked an old track for a while and finally came up treed at a den. I treed a coon on this drop! I heard kitten coon crying and walked to the area I heard it from. And seen mama sitting in the tree. Well it really was a nice night out so I went to a river bottom for one more drop. Let me just tell you Whiskey is still having issues with crossing the water. It was moving pretty good for it had rain on and off all day. He would go all the way up to his chest then stopp. So we went home after that.

Went to pull Whiskey out of the kennel last night and he was limping. I took him out anyway to see how bad he was. He hit a track right away and then couldn't do anything with it. He was working it down a fence row when I grabed him up and headed to the truck. Took him home and soaked it. This time there is a hole in the bottom of his foot. It's the same foot he hurt a few weeks agao. I wounder if maybe whatever was in it moved and came out. This morning it was swollen pretty good. This can't be happening, the hunt we have trained for since Oct. is this weekend. And Pipper is still in heat. As of now I have nothing to hunt. He better be on his feet by tomarrow at the lastest fri!

Well Had a bad weekend. Thurs. night in the 1st 5 min of the hunt Whiskey got jumped righ in front of the cast by a mean Walker dog. So I didn't get to hunt the rest of the weekend. He looks pretty bad and it's going to take a long time to heal. I hope it dosn't ruin him from hunting with other dogs for life. The dog that jumped him hunted again the next night and caused a 3 dog fight. So he can no longer hunt in PKC.

Last night I took Pipper out for the 1st time since she's been in heat. I put her out with Rain. Rain did a nice job treeing twice, but I didn't get there in time. I was impressed for this being only her 4th time out. Pipper was track jumping running coon all over but never treeing more than a few barks. She did put one in an old well and stayed. I did get to see both of rain's coon but buy the time I got to where she was treeing she was off running another track with Pipper. Here's the old well pump Pipper and rain ran the coon into. I saw the coon in there.

Well being back to work and putting 10 hr days, then hitting the woods every night has been tired some for me. But tues. I took Rain out alone to see it she would hunt. She went out and found a track right away. But she worked it out into the field. So I lead her up and put her back in the woods again. Then she went back into the field again. So I lead her up and put her in the woods once again. This time when she worked her way out I gave her a little nick with the E-collar and she work the woods then. It was a tiny patch and no water in the woods. It was a hot day so I think all the coon had left the woods to find water. We say 4 coon along the road on the way there. So I think it was just a bad drop. She did run track in the fields and went hunting alone. So I was happy with that.
On Wed night I took Pipper with me to go with a friend to hunt off his buddys feeder buckets. But his buddy had to stay at home with his kids so we didn't get to go. We just picked up a new hound that Brooks (my friend) had just bought. She's a 7 yr old Walker dog that's body is almost all black, with a tan head and tan on the back of her legs. On the way home from Brooks house I decided to make on drop in a little woods. Pipper stuck right away a ran a fast track. The shut up all together. Well after anout 5 min of nothing I went walking. She was all the way in a hole under a log. All that was sticking out was her tail. I herd the dirt hitting the leaves, thats the only way I found her. I cut her again in there and she was checking trees and walking on her back feet winding a coon. I saw where the coon was and she had checked that tree twice but never did bark. I'm sure it was a lay up coon, and the air was real still. So I lead her up and went home.
Fri. Brooks came over for a hunt with me and brought his new dog Tina. I took Pipper and they struck and treed pretty fast. Pipper located on the tree 1st a few times, but Tina treed 1st. It was a big tree and looked like a den. Next drop they both looked pretty bad, finally Tina treed. Pipper came in with us. It was a totally hollow tree from the ground up, but we don't know if it was an honest tree or not. then we droped into the river bottom where the ran a fast hard track. Pipper got treed 1st this time, but Tina was right there. Pipper left the tree as we were walking in. I was NOT happy. I found the coon 3 tree's over but there was grape vines crossing all of the tree tops. Next drop they worked hard and got treed on another good tree. We think it was a den tree. We decided to cut out Tina alone to see what she would do. She went hunting and treed, but we took our time getting there to see if she would stay. She didn't. Then she came back to us after 10 or 15 min. So I went to a river bottom and cut Pipper out alone. By this time the wind was blowing good and it was hard to hear. Finally Pipper open up but she never got treed that I know of and I called her in.
Sat. I drove to Ashland to hunt with Jesse and his blue dog pride. We cut them out on a fresh track, they really drove. Then shut up all together. We got them lead up and cut them again. They never really did anything. So we lead them up and cut them deeper into the woods along the creek. Pipper was working a hard track and Pride came in and they got it moving pretty good. They seem to had lost it and Pipper kept going to the same area and really barking. But never treed and never moved it on. So after what seemed like forever we went to her. I spoted the coon in the tree right where she was working. See kept working the same little area cheking all the tree's. So I showed her where it was she treed real good but never did smell it on the tree. Pride never did tree bak at all. This time of year the sow coon don't have much of a scent. This way they don't bring preditors back to the den. Whiskey's leg is healing some. Still a gaping wound, but getting a little smaller. I took Queenie out for a good walk in the river bottom Sat while I released some bunnies. She put a thorn in her hind foot. So it was swollen today. Pipper was a little lame on her front right foot this after noon we I took her out for a 2 mile stroll. So Rain is the only thing I have to hunt. But the storms or rolling in so I might just take tonight off!
