Had one of our best hunts fri. night in a long time. 1st drop struck a coon on a creek righ away. But the dogs headed into the wrong direcrtion and had to cut them off at the road to stop them. Next drop on the river made a shot run into a hole. Went across the road to the other side and ran a treed on a den tree. Cut loose again they took a few foot steps and treed another den. Cut them again and tree real fast. Well it was full of grape vines after much hard looking. I finally shut off my light and looked. Where I saw a dark lump in the tree. And there he sat. Finally after days of hole and dens I get to see a coon. We treed 3 times in a little patch of woods in that river bottom. That's the 1st time in a while I cold cut loose and not have them blow out of there. Things are starting to look up. We have a big bench show today. Hope to bring home the hardware. But we have nver been to this place so hard telling how it wil go!

Took a few night off, Whiskey was starting to loose his voice and I don't want to hurt it. We went to a bench show yesterday. It was a joke another one of those good old boys clubs that you don't stand a chance if your an outsider. At least I know I had the best dogs there. And so did everyone else. It's pretty bad when almost everyone there tells you you have a pair of the nicest dogs they have every sceen. And the judge can't/won't see it. I was pretty upset because my dogs deserved to win. They know when they loose and get down in the dumps. Now I have to lift there spirits back up. I'm going to hunt Pipper and Rain tonight. I want to give Whiskey another night to rest his voice. Although he will not be happy about it. It's for his own good. Pipper has been feeling left out lately cause last week I brought Whiskey in one day and Rain another to work on there toes nails. I dremmel them to smooth them down. It helps hold there feet tight for the bench. She see's them coming in and out and just wants to come in the house.

Ran Whiskey, Pipper and Raven last night. You can tell you have been hunt hard when you take a few nights in a row off and the dogs look BAD. Cut them out and right away they struck, Whiskey acted like he wanted to tree. Was even up on it but never rolled over into his tree choop. Pipper and Raven were playing in some tree tops and going nuts. Finally pulling Whiskey off. He went back to his tree and treed, it was a den. But never did roll over. So I lead him up called the girls and cut them again. Once again they struck fast but took forever to get it moving. Finally treed all the way back on the edge of the woods. Raven checked the tree but kept moving. I grabbed her up and put her on the tree, but she wanted nothing to do with it. It was a den and I couldn't find a coon on the outside. So we walked back after fighting with Whiskey on the lead. I had to hand him off to Laura cause I was going to kill him for not leading right. On the way to the next woods a coon ran in front of the truck to a woods I can hunt. So I parked it and turned them out. Hoping Raven would tree. The ran it fast and hard. But then Pipper and Whiskey kept going from one tree to another treeing. The tree's were about 20 feet apart. I don't know what they were doing. Once again I had to go get Raven and put her on it. She still wanted nothing to do with it. She just wants to keep her nose down and run tracks. I was coming down sick last night. And have a heck of a head cold today. Don't know when i'll hunt next. I need to rest up and get better!

Well Still not feeling the greatest, but needed to get Whiskey out. To get ready for a comp. hunt Sat. So I just took him out. It was windy but supose to get worse and then cold. 1st drop was a little woods right off a road. It gets poached alot and usally this time of yr. there are no coon. Well he hunted it out and came back twards the front so I grabbed him up. Then went to another little woods Which is right behind the land owners house and barn. He keeps traps set all yr so there aren't many coon in it either. He struck and ran a fast track twards a dirt pile. Guess the coon was in the hole. So I lead them up and headed in. It was raining and blowing at this time and my head was pounding.

Last night the weather had droped from being 56 the night before to 26. But the coon were out in full force. Cut Pipper and Whiskey loose and Whiskey tree right off but never rolled over into his tree bark. Pipper kept on a little ways and hit a tree pulling Whiskey off his to hers. Then tree to top out of it. I walked to the tree he was at 1st and the coon was sitting there I WAS NOT happy with him. Guess I need to hunt him alone more. Went to where they were treeing and they did have a nice big coon sitting there. Cut them loose again and they worked a track ut of the woods along the road ona ST. RT. So we went ut and lead them up, i'm guessing a tile coon. I've never had them go out to the road there before. There is no where for the coon to go on the other side of that road. Went down the road just a bit and cut loose in a cow pasture with lots of dens. They ran it back at us under an old barn. The cold was settling in one use so we called it a night. I was going to hit a comp. hunt tonight but woke up to 9 dgree's out this morning. Will see if it warms up at all today!

Coon are really running, and the dogs are getting them treed. Last night just went to one woods and treed 4 times. I saw coon on the 1st 3 tree's and the last was a den tree. I'm sure we could have treed at least one more, we didn't even make it to the west side of the woods. But I was getting cold and my chest was hurting from the cold air. So we headed in. The duo is getting treed faster and faster. But Whiskey is still having trouble with his voice. Even after all this down time.

Last night wasen't much fun. I just took Whiskey by himself and he boohooed around for a 1/2 hr. before I grabbed him up out of a field. Went to another spot and he struck right away but ran it the wrong way heading twards the road. I yelled at him and hit the tone button when he hit the road and he came right to me. So that ended our night. Going to take Pipper and mybe Rain the deer runner tonight!

Tookk Pipper and Rain down the river bottom last night. Rain found a deer trail just about as soon as I cut her loose. But it was where the deer crossed the river and she wasen't so sure about that. I walk down there and saw the deer tracks and told her what I thought about it. Then we moved on. Pipper took a while to get a track going, just as Rain got going it crossed over a log jam. Pipper got acrossed but Rain didn't Pipper never got the track moving good and I got sick of waiting so I crossed and lead her up. I feel an Hr was plenty long enough. There haven't been many coon moving. I didn't see any new coon tracks on the river all night!

Bigfoot, I hope not!!! No, Pipper and Whiskey are unstoppable together. But when I hunt them apart they act lost. They don't push a track fast when there alone. My falt cause I hunted them together so much to help them. Now that the weather is better they need to hunt w/o each other. But it's like starting over again for me. once those pop up spring coon get here they should be fine!

Well I hunted Fri. night in a comp hunt with Pipper. It wasen't a very good cast Pipper treed once on a den tree and got circle points. But the other dogs were treeing slick all night and she wasen't haing it. She did't get another dog to run track with her so she did tree like she should have. She was really confused as to why the other dogs were treeing all the time when there wasen't a coon. But I was happy with her 1st comp. hunt after all she did win the hunt but didn't have any plus points. Sat. I showed and Whiskey got his win so he's a CH now on the bench. It's time to hit the woods hard this week to get ready for next weekend!

Sometimes it can be fun, sometimes not so much. This just happened to be a fun weekend!!!
Well back to the woods last night with Whiskey Pipper and Raven. Whiskey got treed while Pipper was trying to work a different track. But she couldn't stand hearing Whiskey blow out the tree and came flying in on it. Raven came up a few times and tree barked. Then went to back tracking. I just let her go cause last time I lead her up and she wouldn't even look at the tree. Well we cut them loose again and they all got treed. Raven treed a little walked araound a little then stayed there and treed every breath with the other dogs. It was a good night. Now I need to keep Raven in the woods to keep her going!

Last night I took Whiskey, Pipper and Queenie. We made 2 drops and ran to 2 den tree's. Not much out last night. I did get to see a squrile watch the dogs tree from the next den over. I don't know if a coon jumped in his tree and pushed him to the not hole or if he was just seeing what all the noise was about.
This morning we tried to work the yound dogs on a drag bag. But after we got the coon in the bag it crawled out cause Laura wasen't paying attention while I was getting the rope set up in the tree. Oh well!
