After messing with a double seater ladder stand with an enclosed blind. I'm thinking of doing one more stand ,and it won't be one of those things. It looked pretty simple! Looks are deceiving! Any way put a couple cameras out in some long shot areas. I hope to catch what I'm looking for in the next couple of weeks. Rather than setting them up in guaranteed spots for pics. I went on a couple of hunches or what if's. So there will either be some or none!?? The turkeys are definitely fillin in. I was a little concerned about a small family group I saw. The poults were itty bitty. Looked like they were born in mid july. Smaller than a grouse. Don't recall ever seeing them this small ,this late in summer! Won't even be worth shootin! Get more meat off a grouse. Goose starts next week or this week. Been seeing and hearing quite a few flocks overhead. It appears that most of them are heading to areas I don't have access to. . That could change though. We will see??

Not only had a great day today in the woods with my daughter. But we were able to do a little deer scouting. I was showing her a few basic things. Tracks old rub lines. And the soon to be opened scrapes from last year. We found a small bush torn up by more than likely an older buck, who just shed his velvet. The deer runs are so obvious this year because of the rain. I had a couple cameras on the outskirts of the property. Not awesome places to get a lot of pics at all. I just wanted to see if they are either comin or going off the land. i went over and talked to the neighbor,he gave me some ideas for cameras on his land. Gonna just keep movin them. Not staying in the same area for more than a week. I've got a month and a half to find what I'm looking for.Actually less than that, once we are within a couple weeks I have to stay out of some of the spots! To have the bucks out of velvet early could either help or make it more difficult to get the big picture. Roughly two weeks until turkey opens. The birds will be there. But after they logged some of the farm the fall patterns could be a little different from the last dozen years. Not a dramatic change, but enough to warrant a little extra scouting time. The gobblers seem to be up high which is normal, until the acorns start fallin down low. The acorns look pretty good this year in some areas. The white oaks up high are starting to drop. Too many acorns could make for some difficult hardwood hunting. Wont be able to pattern anything.

Spent more time in the woods today. It appears that a majority of the bucks on the land are out of velvet. All my cameras are set for a four day run. Patterns are developing somewhat. Two of the 8 pointers have shown their travel routes . The larger of the two has a short distance to the fields. He maybe tough to set up on,not a whole lot of room to get in and hunt him, without maybe tippin him off. Most of the does are traveling the same three trails they normally do. One looked a little more worn than the others. A good trail to hunt come November. Small rubs should start appearing this week. Looking forward to getting out there this week and checking cameras.

The longshot cameras ,didn't fare as well as i thought. Had to revamp and move cameras back closer to the center of activity. The big bucks will probably be sporadic now that they have lost their velvet. Going into their solitary mode. If i can just get the 12 pointer down somewhat,it may help me a bit. He seems to be traveling some areas in an erradic pattern. Seems every couple days he shows up in certain spots. The one mainstay is he is going by the hang on stand. But at different distances each time. And he goes through at different times. No exact time frame what so ever! Sometimes at 3 am sometimes in late morning. I guess timing will be everything. Jumped a mixed flock of hens ,poults and gobblers this morning. They flew in several directions. It was a good break if i was hunting them! Still can't figure out how the heck they are gettin around the trail cams though. Scratchings through out the woods. Even put a couple cameras lower to the ground! Maybe once the foliage is down some it will be easier.
