The knife I use now for field dressing deer is a knife I made for myself 20 years ago...It's been a great knife but another knife I've used that "Got the job done" the best was a Buck Pathfinder...I used to manage an Adirondack Hunting club and one morning I had a club member shoot a deer off of a drive next to me and when I went to dress the deer out for him I realized I didn't have my knife...He handed me his knife (a Buck Pathfinder) and that thing got the job done better then any knife I've ever used...The blade shape and length seemed to be perfect for dressing a deer out...Every year I threaten to buy one but I just can't seem to stop using "My" knife... Here's a picture of a Buck Pathfinder:

Got the Pathfinder.... great knife like you said... I've had it for about 10 years now. One knife that was given as a gift was a Ka-Bar skinning knife. I haven't used it yet on deer but have used it on other things and man is it SHARP! I love the smell of the new leather from the sheaths on knives! Can't wait to use it this fall!

I use my buck 110 pocket knife for ALL skinning chores! I use a cleaver to knock off the pigs feet but after fully skinning and gutting, and removing the front hams the rib and loin section is seperated from the rear hams leaving them hanging from the mule tape. I can "chop" the hocks off with my buck and truly love that model knife! Brent

I use a Gerber Gator lock blade. Been using one for about 10 years and have went through a couple due to loosing on a couple times but they are sharp, easy to sharpen and are flat out tough.

I use a Buck Protege folder with a drop point blade, the knife holds an edge extremely well.

I also use a Buck knife as well. I have large hands, so the Buck 6" special is my knife of choice. They hold a nice edge, and work very slick!!
