I hunted several years with a buddy's BAR in .270. SWEET gun, never missed a beat, and with the Leupold scope he had on it, it never needed adjusting - it just killed what you pointed it at.

Out of all my weapons and that is many,, I go to my Remington 600 Mohawk, in .308 ,,,, I bought this rifle in 1975 new from I dealer I'm still using.. The first time I pick it up off the rack it was like a marriage ( I'm married over 30 years).. In 1982 I did camo job on the stock. The scope a 4x wide view , rubber coated in camo was bought at a Gun show and has been on it giving me great service..Can't remember the company name that made it and it has no company marking on it..There is maybe 3 or 4 years that I remember not taking a deer with it. Here is a picture of it....

Swampdog, I guess I too have a favorite rifle that seems to always be by my side come coyotes, deer or groundhogs. A model 70 Winchester pre-64 in a 25-06 caliber. If the ATV leaves the house, why it is in the scabbard for sure.
In the highcountry up around the juction at Hoback or over at Hayden Colorado, I usually have a pair of .338's to hunkar down next to at night in the tent.
Both rifles are model 70 Winchester pre-64's, one a .338 win mag and the other is a feather weight in a .338-06 as back up gun. Those bull elk are a bit harder to put down than most might believe. I like the idea of more bullet for such large size animals.

as for me,it depends on the game i hunt. for moose,my 338-378 really is the trusty one. for deer , the 25-06 is always appealing. for black bears, i`m really fond of my 30-06 ack imp. and the 22-250 is my varmint rig deluxe. this is my rifle battery that will never be for sale. problem is, i love rifles so much that i buy and sell many and try to use them on game. so most of the time, my favorite don`t really hunt. go figure!

For decades it use to be a 30-06.
Now for deer it is toss up between 25-06 or 270 win ..........both in rugers
For varmints under a 100 I love my savage 17 HMR
For Varmints over a 100 my 22-250 gets the call
Shotgun..........I like my winchester 12 semi....light and it works well.
If I had to pick one gun it would be a 12 so I could hunt everything.
If I had to pick one rifle it would be the 25-06.......good on everything from varmints to heavy 250 pound deer.

Really it depends on where I am hunting. If its KY you won't find me in the woods hunting deer without my 30.06 remington 7600 that gun has killed more deer than I will ever know it was given to me by my dad who use to hunt Penn and Mich with it. In my home state of Ohio we are not allowed to hunt with high powered rifles so I reach for the 12ga win 1300 or my ruger red hawk in 44 mag.

Mine is a TC Encore. Which barrel I have on there depends on what I'm going to hunt. Don

I hunted with a Savage 110E long action in 7mm Mag. I hand loaded my rounds for her and he flat moves 3,030 fps. I was killin California Blacktail and Mulies from anywhere 150 to 400 yards , great long distant shooter. 7/8 groups @ 100 yards @ 2 1/2 inches high. But she was lousy for Arkansas Huntin, I shot my first whitetail with her at 28 yards, total body slam, dead before he hit the ground. Rolled him over and the exit hole was the size of a "Cantalope". Too much gun and hot load, I retired her and bought a Single Shot Rossi in 308 Win and been happy with that gun for Timber Huntin Whitetails. My ole Huntin buddies back in California call my 7mm Mag "The Black Bitch" "The Black Bitch" They gave her that name cause she flat gives the bitch slap to game.

I guess my go to gun depends on what I'm going after, how far my shot is apt to be and several other conditions. I take a lot of pride in knowing that regardless of what I'm going to hunt I have a "go to gun" in that gun cabinet for the purpose (except for grizzley bears). Best wishes.
