Yesterday while moving a ladderstand. Had a slight mishap. Any how moved the stand to one of my remote spots. Can't get in any trees with the climber. So rather than put a hangon in there, figured a well hidden ladderstand would work fine. As i was cruisin along at a snails pace on the 4 wheeler. I looked up on the ridge above me,below one of my stands. And there stood a deer! At first i couldn't tell what it was doe or buck. After looking at the pic on my video cam. Could see some bone on his head. Doesn't look like it was a big buck. But one goin by the stand anyhow! SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE READY TO ROCK AND ROLL.

I'm so ready to get out in the woods, I'm gonna get my Pa license. They start a couple weeks before we do! And I got a few invites to come down and hunt with some friends. So we will see with the schedule. Kinda like to concentrate on the home turf.

A little bent out of shape today. Had 4 cameras tryin to figure out the 12's routine. All the cameras were in key points I felt would maybe reveal some weak spots in his travel. My uncle who has enough wood to easily get him through two hard winters, decided he was gonna down some trees to let em season til spring, why?? ,who knows. He saw several of the trail cam pics. I told him we needed to stay out of the center/bedding areas on the land ,and the deer would stay. He's the first one to complain about not getting a deer too. The deer arent coming in til dark,if they come in at all. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need to find a couple more back up spots. Rubs are croppin up in the usual places. Got a little time before the start of the season. No need to panic yet anyway!

Check cameras tomorrow, see what i got! And maybe goose hunt the last day of the early season just to go out. The duck season will produce both ducks and geese. This weekend Going to do a little recon mission for turkeys. With the season opener next thursday, might be a good idea to see what is goin on in the hood! the farmer said he has been seeing nearly 60 birds ,small flocks scattered, which is a good thing. Like to find a bach group of toms. Have to see. Saw a huge buck yesterday, bedded in a small patch of golden rod at the end of the big field in the flats. Think it was just coincidence. Highly doubt that is his core area! Absolute giant for our area.

Yesterday while setting up cameras in the rain. My daughter and I saw quite a few deer roamin around. No big bucks ,just a few little dudes. It was a good sign nonetheless. Most of the standsites are comin around. Finding a few bushes thrashed and twisted and some decent rubs ,tells me the big boys aren't too far away. Did find a turkey torn to shreds . More than likely a coyote,by the looks of it. That opens on October first. But fearing hunting them ,would screw up deerhuntin,I'll wait. I'll have the calls in my deer stand for those sob's. Grouse were everywhere, we flushed several across the hill. Changed all the junk batteries in the cameras so we will see what i may have missed with the wasted week.??

Well the true fall festivites kick off tomorrow. The turkeys are ready to be hunted. 25 yrs and I'm still like a little kid. Been gettin all kinds of calls from folks. "wheres the birds?" "Where you huntin?" It is very encouraging to me to see some of the folks I introduced over the years, still showing the fire. The weather has been, well, like fall weather should be. And hopefully the next few days will be packed with some more memories. I'm going to decide friday whether I want to hunt Pa or not this year. If i do i'll be in the stand on Saturday morning. Been somewhat checkin in on the deer down there, just in case. I'm so ready to get in the woods!

May have to change the order of the stands I plan to hunt. After a little lookin around ,came to the conclusion. The reason why most of the trail cam pics and sign in those areas has dropped off dramatically. Is because all three big hardwood stands on the property are absolutely loaded with acorns. This could take precedence over any other food source for a few weeks. Stalked to within bow range range of some doe's and fawns, who literally were bedding and feeding in the hardwoods. The deer aren't traveling ,cause they don't need to except to get water. Most of the rubs, and the small bucks i saw, have been spending most of their time in the hardwoods. It appears because of the openness, the bigger bucks are'nt comin into the the hardwoods until either during the night or for a very short time in the morning and evenings. Somewhat out of time for to set cameras and figure out a new plan. May have to slip into a few familiar spots in the hardwoods and wait a week or so before hunting the other stands. Who knows time will tell.

Well seeing more deer walkin than on the cameras. Finding rubs in nearly the same area as last year. I'm pretty sure the 12 pointer is the big eight from last year. Don't think I'll be seeing him ,if i see him at all, until november. I didn't want to venture into his stompin grounds, until huntin season. Looks like he is goin in an opposite pattern than he did last year. Instead of finishing his night up in the top field. He looks like he is comin from the bottom field. May have to hunt one of my evening stands on one or two mornings. The two transition stands could be pushin it early in the season.. One of the neighbor on the other side of the hill has been seeing a big bear in the past couple of weeks. Be nice to have him come by! One more week and its on!

Well it was a good weekend as far as seeing deer. My uncle has put the chain saw up for awhile. I pulled my cameras but I need to get them back out. I've noticed the deer are starting to move into the fringes of the land before dark now. Moved two stands to counter act the wood cutting. Yesterday morning saw most of the deer later in the morning. Like they're waiting for coast is clear sound. After my little mishap with the 9 pointer, I have to move that stand it is now labeled. No go zone!! I don't think I'll have to move it far. Just out of that tree. Gonna try to get out for ducks and geese sometime this week. After an absolute terrible start on saturday. My fall turkey season is over as far as carrying a gun. Gonna try to get some folks out this weekend. Maybe actually get some of the longbeards roamin the woods,to come in and lay down to the boom!! that monster tom is gonna either have to wait til spring,or maybe someone else can take him! Bird of a lifetime in my book!

Took a longshot this morning. With all the big buck sightings in the past few days by other folks and myself. I decided to take a chance by sitting in a hill side funnel that in the past has paid off when the bucks are cruisin. Didn't see any deer come up from the flats. Nor did I see any come from the top ,which is a bit strange? This week should be pretty good. The first week of november has been pretty good to me. So I'll be huntin as hard as my schedule will allow. Looking forward to a lack of sleep week.

Been a rough week and a half. The hours on stand pretty much non existent. Hopefully get my health back, and get enough time to get in the game. Got one more week of bow season left. Then the big guns start! The temperatures have been a bit high during daylight hours. So daylight buck movements will be at a minimum. Most of the chasing will be at night.Just hope I can get to some of my stands without jumpin deer!
