Well after my miss the other night,I'm thinkin that may have been my only chance! With gun season comin next saturday and being limited to hunting evenings, maybe after tomorrow. It could be pretty tough. Plus the daytime temps are just plain to warm. Most of the bucks will be runnin doe's through out the night. And unless one comes into heat in the next couple of days, the bucks will be harrassin at night and bedded during the day. I put out several cameras today to see where the heavy travel routes are to get set up for gun. Most of the patterns have changed a bit since archery started. By the looks of it I'm gonna have to pattern the neighbors and their stand set ups this week. So when we set up we aren't runnin all the deer into them. noticed four stands set up on our border. Which is perfectly fine, having a good relationship with the neighbors. Just have to come up with a plan before the middle of the week. Definitely gonna have to get to my stand early on the opener, with all the traffic over there.

Well it's down to maybe a couple days of the regular bow season left. I don't really see it as crunch time. But it sure would be nice to get one more chance to redeem the miss. Gonna be a cold morning so we will see what happens. Very disappointed my daughter won't be able to get out for turkey's due to her grandparents being up from tennessee. The fall season is over friday. With her school and soccer schedule we never got the chance.

Well with the final day of a mandatory furlough at work. Give's me an extra day to hunt over the holiday weekend. After finding some huge rubs on Monday I think I am gonna get some fresh batteries in the trail cams and keep them out for the rest of the season. Pretty sure most of the deer movement is going on at night. If I can get lucky maybe I can find where they are finishing out their nightly excursions. And be waitin for them.

Some of the scrapes that went cold for a couple few weeks. Have been reopened. I think some big bucks will be shot in the next week or so. Some of the yearlings must be comin in. Some giant fresh rubs too on some good sized diameter tree's. Maybe with a little luck some of the yearlings I have been seeing just about everyday will bring in a buck. Quite a few of them were doe's.Looking forward to late muzzleloader. Have to get some more trail cams out at some point. Be nice to get some snow.

Well with the wind and few inches of snow we got. Made for a day of no hunting. Now the winds are howlin and this morning is pretty much out of the equation. This could be a good thing. With the weather nobody will be on the property. And with the wind direction it could push some of the deer on our property. Some of the best wind break areas on the whole hill are down in the hollow. I'm sure the yearling doe's are bein bred now. Still have one camera out. And should get more out by weeks end! Talked to my uncle said he had nearly 50 turkeys in his yard this morning. They just don't seem to be goin anywhere. They have been on the land all season so far, which is very rare ! With a few days of rifle left and then ML starting . It is time to lightin the herd. We need to take out a couple of the yearling doe's or it could be a hard winter for the herd. Two or three every year for several years has helped tremendously. We have already taken the adult does we needed to take for the year. see what the weekend brings?

Gonna go out and brave the elements. Still bonechilling cold. But ya got be in it to win it. I think I may start off in one of the best wind break areas I have. Im glad I set up a good ground blind in a small bowl on the southeast side of the land. They are calling for some sunshine. Maybe the deer will hunker down in there for some warmth.

3 degrees right now! Several years ago I shot a pretty good buck it was 3 degrees. How i still hunted my way up on deer with the loud crunch is beyond me to this day! I may try and get out a bit up in the morning . The sun is suppose to be out. So maybe the deer will be up and about later in the morning. Give em sometime to get relaxed and then venture in. I have to take atleast two of the yearling does out of the herd and one more adult doe. And hopefully a chance at a good buck. Before tuesday. i love muzzleloadin but with the work schedule and the weather it has been a bit disappointing as far as not being out there. It all starts tomorrow. ;D

Captains log stardate 10 dash niner! I think the turkey's and deer are gonna get a bit of a break in the sub zero or close to it,temps. On my way to work i saw the big flock close by home. They looked all giddy, feedin and runnin eachother off food. Gonna try and get to the woods this afternoon. Pull stands and look for some animals. Tote the shotgun and maybe get some small game. If not no biggie. Just need to get outdoors. The weather report is looking pretty darn good. A whole lot warmer than it has been in over a month. Maybe poke around for some sheds, the snow has melted off in some areas, they should stand out a bit.

Had a great day today. Got away from the house and saw some wildlife. I came up over the hill on the 4 wheeler and there stood a flock of maybe 30 birds. Two big longbeards and a bunch of hens and jennies. Then I reached the top field and some 20 deer took off. I came around the hill ,and here comes my uncle on his wheeler. Told him of the turkeys. And he said,"follow me". We headed back down the hill and he pointed out in the cornfield across the road. There some 300 yds away was about 70 turkeys. He said they have been there for two weeks. Took out the binos and I could make out several ropes in the group. He said they gobblin pretty good last week from up on the hillside. I can't wait to hear them in a couple months up there.

Well it is good to be back with all the fine folks on R&S. Back with an awesome new look. Turkey season is a little closer, but still far enough, to be all to excited about sightings. But nonetheless, seeing them in some of the hunting grounds brings up the optimism. I actually start pokin around for them in February every year. And most years you occasionally hear them gobblin in the mornings in february on the roost. I have had some patterns the birds are using now redevelop toward the season ,and during the season. Can't go wrong followin the birds I guess no matter what time of the year.

Well we had a break in the weather. Saw a couple good flocks out in some fields. Looks like the birds are starting to mix up a bit. Some nice longbeards are beginning to hang with the ladies. Have to get out in the next two or three weeks and see whats goin on off the morning roost. Unless we get some kind of warm spell before then. Got more snow tonight! The weather is starting to take it's toll on me. Had enough of winter!
