Our Three Buck's From Texas

Well I found these picture's of the buck's we got in Texas last fall.


This was is the first one I got. He scored 105 5/8.




This is the second one. He scored 107 6/8.




And I saved the best for last, MommaLH's buck. Sorry of the quality of the picture but it was late and misting rain. He scored 131 3/8.



And one last one, this is of all three head's as we unloaded them at the Tax Man's shop.



I'll post a picture of MommaLH's buck as soon as we get him back from the Tax Man.

Here's a recap of the hunt.

We arrived in Texas on Thursday evening the 18th and we got to watch Shane's nephew in a football playoff game which I'm sad to say his team lost. To start our week of hunting we hunted Shane's property on Friday, we hunted a box stand at the start of the day with two deer seen, one that slipped in down wind that we saw but couldn't identify and a spike buck and so many fox squirrel's that made me wish I had brought my 22 rifle, we then still hunted the property to see if we could see one feeding. We called it a day at about 3:00pm. We went and got something to eat and met Shane at his house for the drive southwest to Mertzon where Shane's B-I-L and his family live's.

We were told NOT to shoot the first buck's we saw because there was some Big Buck's on the property and wait them out, but as it alway's happen's we saw some GREAT BUCK'S on the first morning all 8 point's but they were HUGE horned because of the great rain's they had this spring. We saw the biggest deer on this first hunt that we saw the whole trip, after the morning hunt I asked about the Big 8's we were seeing and Shane's B-I-L said if they were taking over and fighting the younger buck's that had potential for being SUPER deer in a year or two then to take them out. As we sat in the stand that evening we saw some very good young buck's that will be SUPER ONE'S in a few year's and an 8 point that MommaLH wanted to shoot so after watching him for about 20 minute's of him fighting the younger buck's I told MommaLH he would be a great one to start with. He scored 131 and 3/8, not bad for her first buck. Later in the evening - ok way later in the evening as shooting light was fading fast a buck came running in and with only a few second's to decide to shoot or not, I took the shot, him being a young 8, I guess he looked bigger in the later evening light. Shane's son Taner also took a Great 9 point across the road from where we were hunting. (Congrat's to Taner, his scored at 116 +)

On day two we hunted the same stand with some super 8's coming in along with about 10 Turkey's, that evening we hunted where Taner took his Great buck just to look at different country, but we only saw one small 8 being the biggest we saw that evening.

Day three found us all dead tired so we slept in and helped Shane's B-I-L work on a house trailer he was fixing up for his Dad (camp on the river), we then went and helped him fill a feeder on the back of the property where we saw a bunch of Quail and Shane's B-I-L said to take them if I wanted to, he handed me a single shot 20ga with only one shell and told me to have fun...lol I got out of the truck and was walking down a path and they all ran out into it and stopped and looked at me, well with only one shell I took my shot killing 8 with the one shell, when I got back to the truck they called me a liar till MommaLH counted them (ok now who's a good shot...lol). That evening we went back to the stand we hunted the first day, with a ton of doe's feeding but no buck's of any size, (here it come's again) till almost last light and here come's another nice 8 point running in and MommaLH said he wasn't as big or bigger than the one she had already took so I took my second deer of the Trip. With Irion County being a 2 buck county I was through.

On day 4 we went to Robert Lee where Shane's B-I-L's Dad has some other property (where the waterhose snake KILLING HAPPENED) we saw 5 buck's and 4 doe's that morning and a storm moved in and ran us home (ok the lighting did it...lol)

On day 5 I helped Shane's B-I-L's on the trailer and MommaLH hunted alone, she saw some nice buck's but none she wanted to shoot.

We saw enough Turkey's in the week we spent there that everyone would have slobbered on the ground, I videoed the entire week and I have some film that I just have to show Turk this spring at Nashville.

Sorry this was so long but the Whole story had to be told. I have never in my life saw so many deer and I hope to see them again( Hey Shane's B-I-L ......HINT HINT ). I know I left a ton of what happened the week we spent in Texas, but my finger's got sore typing all of this...lol
