On this mornings hunt saw 7 deer , the first monster buck of the year showed himself at 60 yards but never got any closer, he came out by the old disc in to the food plot and went East into the cedars. His jaw was over the fence when he walked up to it , should be 56 inches at that point so he was a huge deer. He had 10 points, 18 to 20 inches wides, looked like he was past his ears by 2 or 3 inches on each side. No room to run the camera today in the single ladder stand, was over dressed for the 28 degree morning and in general did a poor job of being ready for this deer to show. Rattling and grunting is not working yet , should soon, need to turn these big bucks around without spooking them, still some time to go before they cooperate it looks like. Later saw 12 turkey, a raccoon and another coyote. The rancher shot 2 more coyotes today across the road. He has taken 7 in the last two weeks and they still seem to be thick. This evening Dylan went behind the house and saw 6 deer, one was a small buck.

Went to the double ladder stand at the metal gate, my best stand, had everything this morning, left nothing in the truck or at home that might come in handy to do the old buck in. After I was in the stand and situated saw absolutely nothing, not even a squirrel. Kept staying thinking there would be movement at any time but never happened. Other guys did not do well either, well maybe tomorrow will be the day.

Ryan took this 140 lb doe Oct 26, double ladder stand at the metal gate.He saw 6 doe and shot the largest one. She was angling toward him, caught both lungs and exited behind the last rib. Shot an expandable broadhead, tracer nock, the deer went 35 yards. I hunted the cabin stand and saw a big gobbler, raccoon and 2 doe. This mornings hunt was a bust, no deer were seen from the stands, just on the road to the timber. Tonight I have had 3 calls, big bucks are out in my field and driveway chasing does, will try close to home in the AM.

Hunted the ranch today, saw 4 doe early on the bluff and 6 turkey. Evening went to the East side and hunted high above the creek, on the ground, had an 8 point slip in behind me and was within 15 feet before he turned and went around me on the low side. Didn't want to take a shot at him but would not have been able to anyway, I've got to be careful and not let that happen on a big one. He caught me facing away and on a steep slope, could not pull the bow at that angle and let him get too close. Also saw 12 turkey and a doe at the top side.

Hunted from the blind this morning, saw 6 doe and a 4 point buck. The buck and two of the doe went by at 10 yards, fresh scrapes and rubs all sides of the blind but they are using the low side of the ridge the most behind the big pond. Something going on there that needs checked out, a new trail probably because of blow downs or something. Also heard a buck grunting but never saw him or do I know which side of the blind he was on.
This evening hunted at the metal gate, saw 7 deer, 2 were bucks. The largest buck was chasing a doe, went by too fast for a shot.
Green sent a pic of his buck he took this morning in Kansas, looks like a 9 point that will go about 135 to 140. Josh took a decent 10 point, so the rut is on.
rained on me hard this evening, wind blew hard and temps dropped from 58 to 40 in 3 hours. It is raining hard now so tomorrow may be another wet day but been wanting this to happen, been too dry and warm.

Nov 3rd, This morning was miserable weather wise but I left early for the blind at the big pond. Had fixed a thermos and food but left it in the truck, thinking a two hour hunt would be long enough.
The rain picked up and was heavy after I got in the blind, had 15 minutes to wait for daylight because of the storm. At 7:30 a huge high racked 8 point came within 65 yards tracking then he turned away to the NE. Couldn't get him to hear any calls of any kind.
At 7:45 another very good 8 point followed a doe into sight North of the blind 70 yards. They bedded down, once in awhile he would get up, feed close by than bed again. Could not get his attention either, the wind gusting at 30 MPH, raining, 36 degrees, just miserable. Saw 4 more doe in the next 4 hour sit, Although the blind is water proof I finally froze out. Was able to sneak out the door without spooking them and went to the truck to eat lunch. Met with Tim and Paul, we decided to do some rattling and still hunting after the rain ended shortly after noon.
We started seeing deer within minutes and continued until dark. Another huge 8 pointer showed himself, too far for a shot in the bean field West of my house, a very good 10 point came between Tim and I at exactly the half way point which kept him safe but we were both trying to get a shot. A small 8 point gave us a 15 yard chance but we both passed on him while sitting together. Also let two button bucks go by at 5 yards. A six point buck went through the cedars while we were trying to get set up. Altogether we saw 7 bucks and 13 does. Weather forecast for tomorrow is colder, much less wind and clear. We are going to spend the day hunting from daylight until dark. Plan to head to the West place, we have not hunted there for a year, should be good.

I'd say that was a pretty darn good day, even if a deer wasn't bagged. Ryans doe looks pretty nice. Good luck tomorrow.

Had a great fun filled day and completely worn out from from all the outdoor exercise and fresh air. This morning I saw an 8 and 4 point buck, 2 doe, 3 coyotes. At 10 AM got with Tim and we headed West, saw a good 10 point crossing the road onto the farm so after parking 1/4 mile east of him and going into the wind we set up to rattle. The plan was for me to be the shooter and get West of Tim with the horns. I found a place South of the old logging road and had the plans for the deer all laid out, none of which happened quite right.
Within 10 minutes the big buck came down the far ridge in a fast walk, his eyes and ears glued to Tim's location 40 yards behind me. So far so good, he than got to within 30 yards of me and began scraping the ground and rubbing a tree. I could hear and see the dirt flying as he scraped, then he came on up the old road. Drew back and as I was following him found that I would soon run out of room to shoot right as my shoulder was against a tree. The small brush was too much for my arrow, at 18 yards I cut him with one razor and drew white hair. He jumped North and when Tim hit the antlers again he went downwind and came into him. Was able to watch him for a couple minutes, he is not hurt. Have relived the missed shot on this big boy many times already all in the same day.
Went to Tim's farm and tried calling with no luck. Dan came so we all took stands at 4 PM. Saw turkey , pileated woodpeckers, several deer.Dan shot a doe, good hit, no tracking involved, short drag to logging road and was able to drive in and pick her up. By the time we cleaned the doe and got home the day has turned into a 15 hour day. No way I'd work this hard at a job!!
Tomorrow Youth season opens, phone is ringing from Grandsons wanting to go, will see what happens.

2012 Bow Season Bowhunted this morning 2 hours, this evening for 3 hours. On this mornings hunt went to the old cabin ridge, saw 4 doe early, a coyote and one large 8 point with a couple of stickers. When I got back to the gate saw 8 more deer and 13 turkey.
The evening hunt was cold, windy but still saw 15 deer and 2 raccoons. Two of the the deer were bucks, a spike and a good sized 7 point. He was as wide as his ears, long tines but just had the 7 points for sure so didn't try for him. Had one doe that could have shot for sure possibly another, the rest were too far out All the deer were feeding heavily on acorns, there are no White Oak acorn only black and Red Oak. They are still eating them fast getting ready for winter, later in the evening the deer work their way out into the hay and grain fields.

Went hunting this evening with my bro at Tim's farm. At 6PM an two 8 point bucks came out near me at the pond. The large one will score around 150, he stayed out too far all evening, watched him until dark at 715. Nine does finally joined him. Next time I go there should sit in the haystack and take the Canon along, it was no good to me in the truck 1/2 mile away, Also saw a coyote, drew back but it spooked and never took the shot. Total deer seen 11

10-25-2012 PM hunt saw a decent 8 point West of Johns tree stand, he had made a fresh scrape and rub, saw him feeding for an hour towards the 4 corners. Saw another buck by the food plot, he had 3 points on the right and a long spike on his left, he was on the move like he was ready for the rut to begin. 10-26-2012 Saw one doe run out of Shawns ditch as I went into the woods at Paul's place. Didn't see any thing else all evening while hunting, 2 doe by my mailbox when I got home.
