14 April 2007 I worked my way into hunting area 2 near deer stand 2 just before sun up. The birds were not vocal until 0825. I heard one gobble to the east of me at that time. I started to yelp just after he gobbled and he started to come my way. He got within 50 yards and stopped. He was between me and Paul. Paul was also in hunting area 2, but he was at deer stand H5. Paul was also calling and the tom would gobble to both of our calls. The tom gobbled until about 0930. He stopped gobbling when the wind started to pick up. The mosquitos were rediculous today even though the swamp is dry. The swamp bottom is dry enough for me to work in further in the morning. It is supposed to rain all night so everything is going to be wet in the morning. I have the duty in the morning so I will have first pick on the area that I want to hunt. I think that I am going to work my way in from H5 side of the swamp. That tom should do the same pattern in the morning and I am going to bust him. I am going to swing by Wal-mart to pick up another thermocell in the morning. I don't think that I can take that many mosquitos again.... I guess that is what I get for shipping my thermocell from Turkey.
