Well I guess I will join in here and start a journal. Yesterday was the first day of my season in Michigan. The toms were talking in the roost. I got in early and undetected. I set up my new B mobile decoy along with a hen and a jake decoy. I sat quietly while the toms talked to each other in the roost. 6:20am I saw the first bird fly down. I couldn't tell if it was a tome or a hen. 6:30am I pulled out my shallow rio call and made some soft yelps. 6:45am all the toms have shut up the woods is quiet except for a few crows and some ducks flying through. 6:50 I make a few more calls and I get a gobble. He is out there a long ways but my hopes are high. 7:15am the tom has gone silent so I keep telling myself to just sit tight and wait him out I make a few more calls. 7:30am I have to leave the woods to go to work what a bummer. I make the 1/2 mile trip across one field up one fence row and across another. 7:45ish my buddy is driving by the field I just left he calls me and says that there are three toms in full strut down on the far corner. Hmmm guess where i just was. Man what luck. Today I went out around 4 pm. I just went out and started doing some calling. 4:30 I see a hen coming my way. I give her a couple more calls and get her worked up. She is heading right for me and then I see a little jake following her. She got about 10 yards from me and she must have seen me. She took off in a flash. The jake stood there about 60 yards out for a few seconds and decided to go follow his little love. 5:00 I am burning up its 85 degrees and I have had enough. I will go out again next chance I get maybe Friday or Saturday.
