I might as well start one. Went out on the 4th of October to scout for deer and turkeys. Put up my trail cam on a deer trail, saw some rubs nearby. Hopefully I can get some pics of this buck that made those rubs. Was going to another spot to check out but the road was closed due to repairs. It was pretty rough last year. That will be a blessing. This is all public land. Went to another place to scout for turkeys. This is also public land. This land is owned by the Penn State University for experiments in forestry and farmland. This is turkey terrritory. There's also deer, bear and lots of squirrels and grouse. It's mostly small ridges, woodlots and clearcuts and farmland. Went to a ridge looking for sign and found some gobbler scratchings and about 10 yards below that was a pile of bear poop. This ridge holds a gobbler every year in the fall. I'll probably hunt this ridge come turkey season. There's a swamp west of this ridge about a mile away called Mothersbaugh Swamp. It has bears in there and is thick as hell. 4 years ago they took a bear out of there that weighed 630 lbs. I was in there hunting turkeys that year. I'm glad I didn't run into it. Next tuesday I'm going scouting for turkeys at another spot. This is a well known spot for turkeys thus named Turkey Hill Road. I killed a gobbler there last year. Can't wait to get out again.

Went scouting today for turkeys again. Can't seem to find any around!! Went to my old haunts, acorns are everywhere, still no turkey sign. Stopped at my buddy's camp and he said he saw three hens in Sept. but they didn't have any young ones with them. Don't know what the hell i'm gonna do. I did find some more rubs on the other side of the clearcut i'm gonna hunt. Here are some pics I took: Here's another part of the clearcut where the rub is: This road is Turkey Hill Road

Took the Mossberg for a walk this evening after work to see if I could rustle up a couple of squirrels. Went to a ridge on the University land to check for some turkey scratchings where I thought there would be some and lo and behold there they were!! I always saw turkeys in there before, so I figured there would be some there again. Not a whole lot of scratchings, probably a gobbler or two. There always is a gobbler on this ridge in the fall. I'll probably hunt this the first day. When the shootin' starts they always end up in here, so i'll probably stay there all day.

Went turkey hunting this evening after work. Went to the ridge that I hunted Saturday afternoon. I was walking up the trail, old logging road, and there was some old scratchings along the road. Not a whole lot but some. Gobbler, i'm thinking. There's usually one in here every fall. Went to the place where I was supposed to go Saturday morning, and sat there until 4:30 calling once in a while and nothing. So i decided to leave there and walk out the logging road farther to see if there was any sign around. Did that and saw nothing. So tomorrow morning i'll go across the road to the other ridge for a couple of hours and see what I can do there. If nothing happens, i'll go somewhere else I have in mind about a mile away. Oh, by the way, while I was walking out the trail back to the truck, I shot a squirrel with a 3 inch mag six shot at 35 yards and he didn't even know what hit him. Peppered the hell out of him. Looks like i'll be digging some bb's out of him for awhile.

Went scouting Tuesday morning for the upcoming rifle season. Went to this spot and found 9 scrapes. Here is one of the scrapes and a rub about ten yards off the side of it: Went to my favorite clearcut and found some more rubs there: I think i'm gonna hunt here in rifle season.

Welp, I got my spot picked out for rifle season. Took a hike yesterday up in my clearcut. Found some new rubs and a scrape. Saw a deer too but didn't see it's head, just its body. Took my Mossberg with me and shot a squirrel. Oh, on the way up the logging road I saw a flash of grey to my left. Pulled the gun up thinking it was a squirrel and out ran three gobblers. I thought, so that's where you guys have been hiding! Next week i'm going to take my treestand up there and hide it until Monday morning so I don't have to lug it up there with everything else.
