I stopped at the gun shop and wanted to get a box of Nosler 40 gr bullets, but they didn't have them in stock. So i grabbed a box of Hornady 40 gr V-max. Anybody shoot these 40 gr V-Max's.

Yes WinMag I do.I use them in my dedicated calling rifle.A Weatherby 24 inch barrel with a 1 in 14" twist.I load them behind 27 grains of VARGET with WSR primers and Winchester neck sized brass.I shot a .31 inch group with them during load development and they are all I use now when I carry my standard 223 Rem calling coyotes. There is very little blood from these bullets though.I have not had an exit wound yet driving them at close to 3600 fps..

Hey WinMag.I forgot to add.I tried BL-(C)2 with this bullet and the Sierra 40 gr Blitz bullet. The accuracy was not nearly as good in my rifle.Groups were in the 1 inch to 1 and ahalf inch range.. If you have W748 OR Benchmark on your powder shelf they are fairly close in burnrate I think.. I really like this little Weatherby.I shot half inch groups with it fairly easy when I started habdloading for it.I was very surprised to see an off the shelf rifle shoot 100 yard groups at slightly over a quarter of an inch. This rifle has killed a lot of coyotes for me.I had my other 223 rem , a Savage model 12 BVSS-S with a 26 inch ss fluted bull barrel reamed to a 223 Ackley Improved , but this little rifle is still my go to gun when I pick up my mouth calls and head out the door to call a yote..This is the Weatherby I shoot.

Thanks Timberghozt,
Yes i do have BL-C2 and win 748 powders, also several IMR's, Bullseye, Hogdons powders too. That why i haven't bought the Varget powder yet.I have so much powder on the shelves yet.And it gets alittle worrysome having all that powder in the basement. Sounds to me like we shoot the same Sav 223

Iv,e never use that light a bullet in my 223! I have found that 50gr Speer tnthp works great on critters, and the 70gr Speer ssp workd great on wild pigs and deer. Have you guys used these at all? vangunsmith
