I bought a CVA 45 cal mag. I'm shooting 3 triple 7 pellets getting great results. I read that you should not use that heavy of a load of triple seven. Does anybody know about this. Thanks Stack

I got this off their site
Triple Seven is a high energy product designed to provide the muzzleloading hunter with higher velocities when used in the same VOLUME as black powder. To duplicate a black powder load velocity using Triple Seven, you must decrease the powder charge by 15%. *See WARNING below.

The NAHC chat rooms have a great discourse on ALL CVA barrels. They say they are junk, with only a 10,000PSI rating, while three pellets of pyrodex or triple 7 produces 25,000PSI. I have no proof of these claims. Just what is being spread on the NAHC site.

THis will help you too determine what to do with your loads......what your doing is UNSAFE.....I got this info after I placed your question on the NAHC site.......Hope this helps........
THIS INFORMATION WAS TAKEN OFF OF HODGDON'S TRIPLE SE7EN AREA OF THEIR WEB SITE. IT GIVES REFERENCE TO LOAD RESTRICTIONS.
quote: MAXIMUM LOAD WARNING
45 and 50 CALIBER RIFLE: 45 Caliber Pellets come in one size: 50 grain 50 Caliber Pellets come in two (2) sizes: 1) 50 grain volume equivalent which equals 50 grains of loose powder by volume. 2) 30 grain volume equivalent which equals 30 grains of loose powder by volume.
The maximum load per shot should never exceed total Pellets containing more than 100 grains volume equivalent. That means, no more than:
45 Caliber 1) Two (2) 50 grain Pellets 2) Three (3) 44/45 caliber 30 grain Pellets 50 Caliber 1) Three (3) 30 grain Pellets, or 2) Two (2) 50 grain Pellets, or 3) One (1) 50 grain Pellet and one (1) 30 grain Pellet
54 CALIBER RIFLE: 54 Caliber Pyrodex Pellets come in one size only: 60 grain volume equivalent which equals 60 grains of loose powder by volume.
The maximum load per shot should never exceed 120 grains (2) Pellets.
So in a .45 caliber rifle, 3 50 grain pellets of Triple Se7en would be considered unsafe. I believe similar loads were responsible for a recent event where a CVA barrel ruptured causing injury to the user.
