Great job! What kind of antler is the starter made out of? Deer? Elk?

Nice! How do you bore out or ream out the solid end of the horn? I have a friend who wants me to make him a powder horn using a large horn that has a lot of curve at the solid end. I've been trying to come up with a way to bore it out following the curve, but, I'm drawing a "blank". I have a dremel which is good to use to a certain point. Thought about burning it out using a red-hot rod bent with the same curve as the horn. Will that work? Its a really nice , large horn and I don't want to mess it up. Any ideas would be helpful.

Great looking horn! If you wish to burn the horn out I would suggest going outside to do so. It smells awful. Please someone tell how you get it opened up as I would like to make one but cannot figure out how to follow the curve of the horn either.

To huntress, and bigsky scott; The horn is deer horn on this ball starter, and to drill in a cow horn, one first sand the end off and the growth rings usually will be in the center, and i eye ball it with a hand drill and small bit around 1/8 and then drill up to the size i want and the horn will allow. hope i helped. vangunsmith
