What's your shotguns effective range? With my Remington 1100 12 gauge I feel most comfortable with it at 90 yards or less. What about you?

I shoot a 11-87 remington... with a Bushnell scope..... Shooting 2 3/4 Lightfield SABOTS.. At 50 yards I'm 1.5 inches high and at 100 dead on... I fell comfortable shooting up to 125 yards with no problem.. Gun is deadly.. ;D ;D

I have an Remington 12 ga. 11-87 SP w/ rifled cantlever barrel. When I first bought it I was shooting the Winchester Sabots and wasn't happy with the grouping. I went out and bought a 5 count box of every saboted slug on the shelf and with a shooting vice and table patterned them all. I would say the Winchesters did the worst outta all with about an 8 inch pattern. Considering I was shooting 50 Yds I wasn't too impressed. The best by far was the Remington 2 3/4" copper jacketed were awsome with 4 of the rnds touching and about a 1 inch stray on one. Been shooting them ever since. I haven't had to adjust it since I initialy shot it in. Every year it is an inch high at 50. I have shot on the range to 150 yds and am confident wit it. A few years back it was the last day and a doe day. I was on a field and a small doe cam out with about a half hour of light left. I waited her out hoping for something better but right as it was getting dark I ranged her and it was 158 yds. Set up on the shooting stick and fired. She wobbled over to the edge of the woods and it was a done deal. I had aimed a little high on the lungs and the round hit at the hight I aimed but was about 2 inches forward or right of where I aimed. Not a shot I would take often but I felt I could do it and did. I like that gun.
Coming from a shotgun only county in VA I have alot of conversations on this and I think I've learned a few things. First is that anyone that has tried 3" slugs tend to think they scatter more than a 2 3/4. Also, when it comes to rifled shotguns you have to determine what they like to eat. Seems each is different and while one shoots one brand well another won't. Pattern which one works best with your set up and then stick with it. The confidence you gain is invaulable.
Now from buck shot perpective. I hate buck shot but when I gotta I use the 3 " winchester supremes. I only use them during man drives and won't take a shot over 40 yds.
