I bought a Savage VLP .204, it is a very very nice gun. I bought it for fox and yote's but it weights 13.3 lbs and gets to be a pain to lug around. I love the gun but can't decide. I have been wanting a encore in the .223 and I also can get one in .204 too. Would you trade the gun in or keep it. This gun is by far the most money I have spent on a gun. It is still in great shape and has had probably 40 rnds thru it. I bought it new for $750 and sold my snowmobile to get it and some other stuff for the gun. Please help

Keep it unless you truly despise it. I wished I'd kept most of my guns I had either traded or sold, especially the ones you've taken game with.
Sometimes for me the story of the actual hunt fades in memory with the firearm sold or gone. Through the years your financial condition changes and you'll be glad your gun is still at home especially if it has a notch (kill) in it...

I say sell it and get something lighter, maybe a Ruger 270, I have one and love it.

Is the weight the only reason your thinking about trading or selling it? That seems to be a good cal. and model for varmint hunting. If it shoot good groups i would hang on to it. As mentioned already, you'll regret getting rid of it after the deed is done.

I would keep it . There's an old adage that a friend of mine has concerning guns" They're like having money in the bank" I Know I wish I would not have gotten rid of some of mine

Well I decided not to sell it and went out and shot my reloads that I have had worked up for it. I found a batch that was shooting .4's at 100yds. I think I made a good decision and appreciate your input. I got a real yote killer now that the wind died down enough so I could test them loads

With a rifle that shoots that great, never sell it. I have a suggestion regarding its weight. Work out and become stronger.
I have a 7MM Rem. Mag. thats a great shooter and is about 11lbs so I know what your saying but I'm willing to pay that price because I love it and have so many great memories with it. I will never sell it, although I have 5 other rifles that will do the same job it does.

Got the groups pretty well in the same hole. I am just going to get a good sling and say the heck with it. I think I just wanted a bow pretty bad and that looked like quick cash to me. I am 6'4" 240lbs so the weight really isnt that bad for me but here in ND and having the kind of winters we get, I don't like trugging thru 2 - 3' of snow let alone carrying a rifle that weights 13 lbs

Shoot that is a lot of snow to have to trudge through. All my big game rifles have slings but the only time they are on my back is when I'm finished hunting.
Weight is always a concern and I try to limit what I pack & carry on each outing however I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I always field dress my game and then return to my vehicle to put up my gear & return to the game and pack it or use game cart to get it out.

lives2hunt you have a great systemof transport . I wouldn't carry a rifle that weighted 13 pounds . Nor would i trade a tact driver like the one reported . That rifle is a set up in a blind type of shooter. But the yotes will be sorry out to 200 yards with very minimal arch.

yep if its a tack driver keep it.some guns shoot good but never become tack drivers if the gun is shooting good for you. put a back pack type sling on it.in the military i carried a barretts 50 cal. it weighs around 24 pounds. i had a back pack sling on it and won several long range competitions with it.this rifle shot 4 " groups at 800 yards, it got even better as i got to know the rifle. this will happen to you too. good decision keeping that rifle.shoot some good hornady rounds through it and watch your groups get better & better. good luck. wildbilltvpr.

I like the gun and all and I hate fox and yotes, so it goes hand in hand. Usually when I go out hunting yote all I have is the gun some extra bullets and the calls around my neck. As for the Hornady's I couldnt get them to shoot out of the gun so I went with blitz king. I still can't figure out if you get the same design of bullet and grns are the same how it can be off so much??? I try and tell everyone that reloading is expensive only designing your perfect round but after that you will most likely start saving the dimes. I took the gun out two days ago and went against a guy for $20 for better shot groups at 100yds and ended up getting all 3 shots in the same hole. It was luck to make it but it was really unmeasurable and just went and grabbed the money before he shot. He ended up with a 1" group which was better than I thought he would do. He was telling me he was shooting 1/2" groups and soon found out before hand it was at 25yds lmao
