I see a lot of people think they have to be square to the the target or critter when they shoot. I see those same people complaining of left and right misses.
Now I understand and know that many shots in bowhunting require sitting kneeling and all different scenarios. I think this info will help a lot understand how their body aligns while shooting the shot.
One thing to keep in mind when repeating something, the body will always go back to the most comfortable position than an awkward one or one that you are stressing a part of you body. So when drawing you bow you could not be lining up to your body's natural tendency. An example a person draws there bow back and then they have to move either right or left to line up with the target, they move at the waist and keep their feet planted. So when you shoot you release and your body unwinds toward the direction you first drew your bow.
Make sure you keep you feet shoulder width apart.
Now take this test, I got this from Bernie Pellurites (spelling) book Idiot Proof Archery, anyhow stand in front of the target (20 yards) and draw your bow with you eyes closed, do not try to put the sight on target or aim keep them closed and just settle in and get comfortable in your anchor. Now open you eyes and not where your aiming (do not move the bow) now slowly move your right foot (for right handed archers) till you in line with the target, this is pretty much you natural draw position. Not where you feet are and you can even mark where each toe should go, practice this. I have noticed that I shoot more consistent with a slight open stance for me I was aiming to the left of the target and now moving my right foot forward to where my stance is open, I have eliminated rights and lefts. Practice and Practice like this I will bet you will see your groups improve, and when you drawing from that awkward position on that trophy buck you will have practiced enough to have you body automatically draw to that comfort spot and release sending that arrow through the boiler room.
Notice, in archery some things work for some and some dont, try it and if it dont work discard it.
A popular myth in archery is that you must shoot with your feet paralel to the target. This is not tru, shoot the way you are most comfortable your feet should be shoulder width apart but can be a little closer or a little over, shoulder width is ideal.
I give credit to Bernie for his keen knowledge of all things archery. Just passing things on that I have used and has worked for me.
