Is there an optimal weight of grains per pound of draw weight used to setup you hunting outfit? Can speed overcome kinetic energy? My current setup is 365 grains including an 85 grain Sonic broad head. 56# draw weight, 29 inch draw... I have not shot it over a crony so I cannot give you fps.
Thanks,

Current set up E-Force 62.5Lb 29"dr. I'm shooting 342 grain CX200 100 grain heads at 297. Works well on Deer.

The old rule of thumb was no less than six grains per pound of draw weight. The fear of excessive vibration to your bow causing damage to the limbs was the reason. Lighter arrows/head makes more noise. Spine weight is most important when figuring what arrow weight you want. Too light causes excessive warbling in flight making shots less accurate. 60lbx6gr=360gr min.arrow/head wt.

Check your states game redulations usually they have a minimum bow weight some even have arrow weights. I would then add five pounds of bow weight and you should be good to go for a minimum. Your set up is fine. Remember heavier arrows yield higher kinetic enegy than a lighter arrow out of the same bow at the same poundage. Also insure that your broadheads are super sharp and you will have no problem with your setup harvesting a deer.

Even though i'm only pulling back 55lbs, it really doesn't take alot to kill a deer if you place the shot right. The lady who runs the archery shop nearby said that she's killed them with a 42lb draw. I think shot placement and not shooting longer than necessary are more important.
