Seems these mathews string problems are hit and miss. I am not one to jump on a first year out pushing the tech envelope piece of new gear. I like them to be out awhile to make sure the bugs are out. I wouldn't think of buying a dren this year although I did shoot one. The XT is a great shooting bow and it has been out awhile. The issue was the cable serving wear at the hard turn over point on the cam. MAthews canned answer is they fixed the problem by changing the serving. I mentioned it to the dealer when I bought it and they have ony carried mathews two years he said he had never seen it. HE did say tey will seperat a little but that was the extent.
If you listen to the buzz at other forumns they seem to accept the problem and go with custom strings problem solved.
Anyway, I bought mine on the twelth and brought it home. Now it's been pretty cold and while I shoot pretty much everyday it is nowhere near where I'll be as it warms up and the days get longer. Well two weeks to the day I was back at the shop getting a cable replaced. (under warrenty) Here is a pic of the damage to the cable after two weeks.
I called mathews and asked to speak to warrenty folks. I don;t remember the guys name but he said they had fixed the problem and said to go through the shop and they (mathews) would do whatever it took to make it right. I called the shop and they had a cable (could have been old new stock). Well I did the three hour round trip to the shop and got the cable replaced and brought it home. They had a fishing show going on and it was swamped so I was glad to get outta there. Well next day I went to shoot and looked at the idler lean and it was freaking way off. With an arrow held along the idler it was at least an inch off at the peep. Dang, I shoulda checked it. My press won;t do a parallel limb so another three hour round trip to fix that. So I'm back to shooting and three weeks later I have a broken unraveling serving again. Sorry I didn't realize it was this blurry.
So long story short, I called the dealer again and gave him the whole story all over and he had the nerve to ask where I bought the bow. There a big store so don; tremember all the customers. anyway he asked me what I wanted to do? I told him I certainly didn't want to do a three hour round trip avery couple weeks to get a cable replaced and I asked that he get ahold of mathews and let them decide the route to take. We he called me back and they are sending new cables and a new cam which are to be in Friday and now I'm gonna have to make sure these guys do it correctly.
The cam seems fine, the ata is to be 31 and it is. The Brace hieght is to be 7.5 and it's more like 7.25. the cam and idler lean was good.
Bottom line some guys get the XT's and go to custom strings and right away and don't play with it. My cut is you buy a $700 with the praise mathews gives their cuda's and you shouldn't have to lay out another bill for custom strings. I would expect to get at least 6 months outta the stock before I upgrade to custom. But it seems some get good service with maybe a little cable seperation and others just crash immeadiatly. I don't know, we'll see how the cam and cable swap out does and go from there. I suspect it won't be long till I gotta decide between WC, BN or VP strings.
Bad thing is I can't shoot it anymore till I get it fixed and I have another three hour round trip to look forward too.
