Waterfowl hunting today

Just wondering what you think. I feel like the best days are gone 4ever. Especisally when you hear of the waves & waves of ducks & geese in the 40's. & 50's.

Yes i do,
Canada and US are losing wet lands that are the breeding grounds.It only stands to reason lesser number of waterfoul to follow suit.On the other hand Residant population are increasing in surburbia ares.But that don't help the migrates in long term.
I have hunted the Detroit river Lake St. Clair, and have witnessed rafts of ducks in the tens of thousands numbers.Truly a sight never to forget.

I agree with WinMag.... we are losing a lot of wetlands, which causes problems with the breeding. That is one of the major reasons for decline.

I have to agree...The duck population continues a steady decline...sad to see it happen...

I haven't gotten out to ever hunting ducks but I tell ya what... there are MILLIONS of them around my neck of the woods!

We agree with the decline in waterfowl population, and would like to add another reason I believe is responsible for the decline in numbers along the flyways of the US. We have a tendency to believe that, due to todays more efficient farming methods, there is a lack of food for the birds. In yesteryears farming, there was almost always an abundance of feed left in the fields for geese and ducks, but with todays machinery, all that is left basically, is the stubble!!! Steve & Susan

Well, I'm not really sure where you guys are coming from because my best days are any days I can be out hunting waterfowl & a limit of 2 geese & 5 ducks is plenty for me! I'm sure I would have loved to live a 100 or 200 years ago to be able to experience the more rigorous/simpler life of living off the land & unbelievably bountiful game but you know what, I enjoy the bounty we have today! For the amount of time I actually have to go spend time afield, there's plenty enough game & fowl around! Especially Geese & Mallard Ducks! I've sat in fields around Columbus & watched Thousands & Thousands of Geese & ducks flying on good days. I've shot plenty enough to help fill the freezer along side of the venison & I can't imagine it being any better than that. I also just enjoy being out in the blind with friends, drinking coffee, calling, flagging, having a snack & shooting more than I get to doing any other kind of hunting! As far as I'm concerned, waterfowl hunting in Ohio is phenomenal!
