How do you break dogs from fighting. I know its hard but need to try before I take him out back. I don't have a shock collar, may buy one though.

You can buy or make a muzzle for them so they can't bite each other & they will perceive that as punishment for fighting. I would try putting the muzzles on right after they fight, then taking it off after a while & if they start fighting again, put the muzzles back on... hopefully they'll get the message. I'd be careful about jumping into the middle of them while they are fighting, you can get bitten unitentionally & it get's real ugly if ya have to go to the ER with a dog bite. You have to fill out a bunch of extra paperwork & prove to them that your dogs are up to date on rabies etc...

With the bulldogs we use for catchin' hogd it is a must that they are FULLY clear of ANY dog aggression while young! 2X4, shovel, sticks, pipe anything that will "lump him up" besides your fist as it does not deserve to be broken over a hard headed dog! But we not only have to get the fight stoppedright then but the damage they can do must be getting QUICKLY trained out for the future! I had to cull out one dog thus far for Dog Aggression and will definately cull the next ones sooner to prevent injury to the less fight capable cur dogs! Brent

I've seen alot to top dollar hound dogs that are mean at the tree. And let me tell you if there was a way to stop a fighting dog these boys would have found it by now! 2 fights and the dog is banned. It just seems to be in a dogs blood if they like to fight, I would never breed a dog that picks a fight, if it's a pup it's a cull. When are they fighting, if it's over food that's a differnt story.
Bigfoot, sounds like you have story to go with all this knowladge!!!!!

Man, I've seen some pretty nasty dog fights over male domonince, female domonanince, and food. I've seen older dogs get snappy, but I'm not old and get snappy too sometimes!!!! But dogs that want to walk up to each and every dog to start a fight need put down.

I had a stick and beat the heck out of him every time he tried to fight. I will take him a few more times to try and break him. Thanks for the information.

georgiaboy, i hate to break this to you , but it is in the genes. very seldom will you ever break a dog from that.we have been raising dogs forever and a mean dog is one thing we will not put up with. it is breed into them. it is not just one breed of dogs,it can be curs, catahoulas, pits, etc if they are mean it;s time to look for something else, good luck

I believe that any dog can be broken of anything, if using the right method. If being shot is the only way, then so be it.

yea, I believe it is in his head. With dogs around he jumps at all. By himself he is playful.

Use a water hose and spray them with water. Works evertime when my bulls tie up.

Good point Chuckale! I've used the hose to correct bad behavior before to! It's a great way to curb barking!

FIGHTING! Well, we raise a few dogs around here and fighting is something that is not tolerated by me the ALPHA MALE. However, to break a dog of such a trait is not a piece of cake never. I always have my leather gloves and chaps on while in the kennel area, as breaking up a fight is a very dangerous thing and I have been biten on more than one occasion. I will let two dogs go at it after I place a muzzle on the both of them. I also put on them E-collars too, which are covered in a heavy leather......so they don't ruin them. This process or fight will last about 3 minutes and then they both get a signal or "shocked" then I say NO and the one that makes the first move gets hit once again. This time he or she gets more stimulation OK. I have broken several dogs of this wanting to fight business but I will remind you that their is nothing set in stone and one might try another dog at another place in the future. My dogs I let room together on a large piece of fenced ground. One must be careful NOT to over stimulate a dog with the E-collar. This E-collar is just a training tool.......NOT a punishment for the dogs because they chose to fight understand. Most males will fight, over who is going to be the top dog in the pecking order and so on, same goes for females but they seem to have more of a vengence toward a certain individual than the male dogs do and often as not are harder to contain around another female. I have 2 such females and it has been a battle the last 6 months. This is not an over night cure by any means. Now to those that say, use a stick, brick or steel pipe to get the dogs attention ......I will just shake my head at those RED NECK types of incouragement to others and their dogs. We have some expensive dogs and the last thing I need is a broken bone on a dog and cost me a $300 dollar or more VET bill in the process.
