Can anyone recommend any good books or videos for training bird dogs? I've got a set of Brittany pups, almost 8 months old. Had a HORRIBLE experience with a trainer. Now I'm just going to work with them myself. They've got it in 'em for sure! They love to hunt. The discipline just isn't there yet. I need help! I trained my Brittany using this book "Gun-Dog Training By Kenneth C. Roebuck." This is an old book I'll admit. But it is good. I do believe you can get one at the Library. I know here in Washington the library's have them.
Where did you get Brits with so much white, I have never seen almost pure white Brits they usually have lot of spots.
Some things I should add. Brittany's are a very soft dog they take training, but at 8 months they may take just a little each day. NO MORE THAN 1/2 hour at a time. Speak in soft voice, don't yell or lose your cool. If you lose it, don't do anything, but put the dog up and call it a day. Be very generous with the praise when they do something right. Above all do not hit them. You will lose a friend and make an enemy, very quickly. If you can make it a game so much the better they love games. I have had Brits for 40 years, and those are some of the things I learned the hard way.
That one on point reminds me of Tony as a pup, he was pointing like that at 4 months.

Thanks for the tips Bob!
At almost 9 months old now, Shooter and Bullet have developed more spots. Shooter's are more like freckles. Bullet has the larger spots. I like the whiteness, simply because their easier to see in the field.
If you've followed any Brittany Field competition, you may have heard of "Noland's Last Bullet" He's a 32 time Champion. He is the Sire to their Sire. Their parents haven't been competeing, but hunt regularly, and are owned by a good friend of ours.
Thanks again for sharing your tips!

Oh come on! It can't be THAT bad! "OBX" is a bid catch phrase here. It started a few years back, someone came up with an oval "OBX" decal for your vehicle. Now it's everywhere! DMV even issued special licence plates beginning with "OBX".
