The turkeys were a Gobblin' It's been HOTTTTTTTTTTTTT all week in NYS! 90 degrees is Hot for us! So Gretch and I headed for the Roost and I curled up on the Porch couch and she on the floor! The 'Yotes sang us to sleep as we watched the Fire Flies and listened to the Peeper Serenade! At 5 am I woke - well at least opened one eye and 2 hens were crossing the lawn at 20 yards! Gretch was still snoring so I went back to sleep! Suddenly---GOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBLEEEEEEEEEEEEE! There were 4 Long Beards just Hammering away at the end of the field Called Gretch up beside me and we just sat and listened to the Wonderful Sound of Multiple Gobbles!

Isn't that a cool sight when you see just that little white dot in the middle of all that dark coloration in those birds. Nice pics!

Wow ! Great photos!
I cannot believe the numbers of mature toms I'm still seeing.....I was wondering, did anybody even hunt these birds? What a blessing to see them! I think I will spend some time fall turkey hunting this year for some of those mature rogues!

It seems as if more and more people are taking a look at fall hunting. Each year I tell myself that I'm gonna get out there and do some fall turkey hunting but always have something that takes priority over it, mainly getting ready for deer season. But last year I did get out once and happen to be lucky enough to see a flock out in a field about 30 yds away from the wood's edge. I snuck into positon and once I got to about 50 yds from them I did the idiot charge at 'em and dispersed the flock nice and evenly. I sat there for about 10 mins and got into position and ready to go. I started hearing one hen open up and then another and then I had 3 hens talkin up a storm. I decided to then get in the mix and try to pull them my way. It was actually a tough battle to get them to come in to me. 2 out of the 3 banked to my right and quit yelpin, I assumed that they found each other. The third was coming in cautiously to my right and could barely make her out through the brush. She was within 42 yds when I stopped and said to myself, man.... I'd rather kill a tom, so I think I'm gonna pass.... BAMMMMMM!!!!!! My shotgun rang out and I killed her. Oh, I should explain, I thought back just long enough between the thought of passing her up and dropping the hammer and remembered how much I HATED those damn hens from the spring before, I thought, she might have been one of 'em.... BAMMMM!!! I think the word is revenge. Fall hunting has made me a better caller. I've been able to hear lots of great vocalization from the hens during that time of year so I use that to my advantage if I'm out gunnin them in the fall.
