So as I stated we started to take pics and were interrupted. The fog was lifting and our cover would be compromised. We grabbed everything and moved to the woods 50 yds from the corner of the field. Put hen decoy out and staked the half wall blind around us. I gave out a call and we heard a hen clucking some 200 yds away. The birds were on the other side from where we killed the first bird. After I clucked and yelped she got nasty cutting at me. I gave it back and a gobble rang out near her. About 20 minutes went by as the hen and I exchanged cutting conversation. The woods, hills and valley around us was just plain amazing. The hen was closing calling more aggressive. Then I heard the unmistakeable sound of a Jake kalc . I figured either another Jake was strutiing or a longbeards was there too. A few minutes later I could make out bodies and heads meandering and doing circles chasing each other. I called to them because they started veering off course. My girlfriend says here they come!! The first few Jakes walked through an opening and right to 20 yds near the deke. I kept the cross hairs on the opening more Jakes passed through and a hen. But all 7 Jakes acted like there was more. I caught more movement to the right. A full fan popped up and a booming gobble followed. He stood behind the only big tree in the whole area. I purred to him and he finally stepped out. At 30 yds I'd seen and heard all I wanted to. Shot to the face. All the Jakes gobbled and wouldn't leave for several minutes. Shortly after the distant birds we heard behind us made their way in. 5 longbeards walked 25 yds right on by. One bird was a good one. Long hooks!! After they left gobbling I slowly got up to go get the downed bird. And here comes two Jakes and another longbeard. We sat and listened to the fight 150 yds below us for several minutes. It was a pretty cool morning. And my girlfriend relived the morning a few times. Lol! It never gets old.
