Our spring Turkey season began today and after having such a long, cold winter one would expect the Turkeys to maybe be lighter in weight but that's not the case. Although I never went out today and may not the first week I did receive reports of other hunters. Kyle shot his first ever Gobbler not far from my house, weighed 27 1/2 lbs with a 10 1/2 in beard and 1 1/2 inch spurs. Bill shot a 25 lb bird and a few others came in at 24 lbs on down. Thought it would be hard to find a bird that weighed 23 this year.
Saw 2 big ones go to roost behind my house this evening with 7 hens, may try them some morning and hope to put one of them on the scales.
Looks like the turkeys came through the winter very well.

Some heavy weights!!! Yeah it may sound funny but if the deer had a consistent food source this winter and didn't travel far to eat. They hung close to that source and got fat. Lol!

Wow! Those numbers are not to be taken "lightly" lol... TRUE heavyweights and trophies in anyone's book right there! Man alive I can only hope that our birds here will manage to bring in some solid stats like that this season! Only 7 more days and a wake up to go! The fever is gettin to me yet once again... oh no... here we go again! lol.

A friend of mine decided to try Turkey hunting with his bow so yesterday he was successful at taking his first Turkey with archery gear, a Gobbler and the bird weighed 26 1/2 lbs. Now that is some kind of luck seems to me like. I've known Ron for years and we have hunting land that borders each other but when I saw him at the ball field today I never really got a straight answer as to where he shot the turkey. Guess it really doesn't matter, the bird is tagged and in a freezer. Would really like to run across it's twin brother though!
