These pics are of Dustin starting to cut my bean field last Thursday evening, he ran late into the night trying to beat the rain coming in on Friday evening. Last pic is the of the Combine, hopper full of beans waiting for it to dry and resume cutting. In the last pic you can see the timber that borders my field which lies between my house and road, this is where some of the big deer live that I hunt. You can probably tell why I see them often but it can be hard to close the distance. No matter where I set up seems I always need to be 75 yards one way or another, or in the tree I was in on just the last hunt. Still like seeing those big ones from the porch and someday maybe one will get close enough I can get it all together and tag one of em. The first 3 pics were taken from my porch, the big rock is my rifle rest for when I'm hunting from the yard, even though it is "Rock"solid the 880 yards across the field is still a little too much for me.

Looks like your bean field Steve is doing pretty good. Hope it all get harvested in a timely fashion. Seeing that combine brought back flashbacks of my most Godawfull road trip ever. Needless to say it involved a combine. Great pics. Easy to see why those bucks hangout around there. Love the big solid rock.

Terry it looks like my field did very well considering the drought, results are not in yet. As for the rock, many times it reminds me of Kt and a thousand yard shooting friend I have in NC. Terry, I bet you have a couple rifles and loads that would reach out there quite a distance.

My .223 is good to 500 yards, but only suitable for prairie dogs at that distance. My most used rifle is a .257 Roberts. I've shot it quite abit at 400 yard targets and its pretty accurate. I don't believe I'd try taking a deer over 300 yards with it though. Just not enough umph for that distance. I do believe your .270 is a great round out to 400 yards though.
