Starting to feel like fall around here. The ducks and geese are now more active. Looking forward to a goose dinner or so.   |

Real nice shot of the waterfowl Terry, you sure stopped them in flight.
So I'm wondering about this weather, it was cool and now very hot again.
Today as we drove across S Dakota it was 98 all day and very windy. In my hometown we have a firestorm warning for tomorrow, hate to say this but I don't know what the NWA means by a firestorm warning.
It looked to me like the ducks and geese have not had a great summer in the Dakota potholes, they were very low and many were dry. They may leave to go South early if they want better conditions I would think.
This pic looks to be the best waterfowl habitat I've seen in the last 3000 miles of driving and probably a better pic than any I took along the route.

Thanks Steve. The midwest seems to have been hit pretty hard with the drought this year. I don't imagine the prairie potholes in the Dakotas are in very good shape at all. Sounds like your area is in pretty tough shape also. Thats a tough pill to swallow for sure. Sure hope you guys get some cooler temps. and rain soon. I haven't heard of a Firestorm warning either. I can only imagine that it is connected with the high temps and strong winds. Generally they just call it a "Red Flag warning". Overall, it has been fairly cool and moist here. Everything is still pretty green. The grains in the valley have all been harvested now, and it sounded like a pretty good crop. My son and I were out this evening checking out our tree stand down by the creek. Seem to have a few elk moving through that location also. Don't have a camera up yet. He is planning on getting one and putting it up. He will be bow hunting off and on out of this stand. Had 20 turkeys out in the pasture yesterday. Was nice to see them. Maybe next spring I'll finally get one. Was 71 here today. |
