My wife asked a friend for a mess of fish if he caught extra and so this evening he called and said he was bringing me fish and to sharpen my knife. He had 50 Crappie and some large bluegill so the next 45 minutes we were busy cleaning fish. I had taken a break earlier in the evening and tried my luck at fishing, caught 15 Crappie and 2 bass but threw them back because I didn't want to clean fish tonight, shows what I know. My son is fishing a big lake about 70 miles South of me, in the last week he has caught some big ones, so far a 45lb, a 50 lb and Monday morning a 65 lb Catfish. I'm now trying to trade him some baitfish for one big fish ~ we'll see how it goes.

Wow, your son has had some great luck with those cats. Never caught one near that size. Just the crappies are making my mouth water. Some good eats there. Hoping to get a few myself this year.

Today I did my part as far as getting in on the BIG fish, helped catch bait and lots of it. My friend Keith has a pond overran with Goldfish so after 3 failures we went after them with rod and reels. It was too cold to put the lift net in, the throw net did not work and the trap was a no go. Caught 202 Goldfish, smallest was 4 inches, largest about 11 to 12 inches long. The big ones cost about $3.50 each at the bait shop so we had a lot of dollars caught in bait. I won't go to the big lake, too far to drive but the bait has made the 70 miles trip to a big live well and all made it fine. My son and his friend will fish for Flathead and Bluecats this weekend, hopefully catching some big ones. My son said they are catching 10 lb fish and larger, many of them going around 20 lbs, the largest so far still the 65 pound cat. For my part I would like 4 small fish or one big one, will have to wait and see how this turns out They are using trotlines I believe, anyway Ryan said when you get a couple of 30 or 40 lb cats on it gets real interesting to land them. He told me today that the 65 lb fish had hit and took an 8 inch goldfish but was hooked behind the gills and was hard to land as he was coming in broadside and full of fight. Would like to have seen this take place.

Hope this pic is OK, via cell phone, email, saved and copied it has made the rounds but this was today's catch on my Goldfish. My son is down to 30 baitfish so is coming up Tuesday to try and replenish his supply of goldfish and says he going to bring me 20 lbs of fillets. Looking forward to making the trade. Today's catch was 11 fish weighing 195 lbs. The smallest was 5 1/2 lbs and the largest was 35 lbs. Big fish seem to be biting in the lakes, they are pulling in some lunkers.
