Ok folks, I have been here for some time and I never have had a reason to want to write about being pissed off until know.
I was working a second job just to try and make a little extra money for bills and such at a local Wal-Mart. Little did I Know that 75% of the employees refuse to even turn a tap to earn their pay and management does not understand how to manage.
Lets start at the beginning. I had this young man who felt he was privileged and did not feel that he had to do anything to earn his check that worked in my department. I spoke with the immediate supervisor about this issue. Nothing. I explained to the supervisor, under no uncertain terms that if this crap happens again, the entire store will know what happened.
See, I come from a military work environment. People were expected to do their job or else.
Lets speed things up to December 20th, 2011. I walked in to find that the grave yard shift did not do their job and it was being passed to me. Since it was just me and the young man who felt he did not have to work, it was going to be my responsibility to finish the work. Let me be clear in saying that this is not the first instance of this problem, it happens all the time. We had many people who did not want to work and the end result would be the work getting passed onto those who would work.
Understanding that I was going to have to finish nights work I went on to accomplish the jobs that were given to me. A couple of hours had passed and I was in the back room finishing up my first task and low and behold here comes a Zone Manager. He said that there was a cardboard display on the floor that needed to disassembled and taken off the floor. He did not directly give the job to me so I figured that I was to delicate it. So, I then went out to the floor and spoke with the young man who (does not like to work) and asked him to take care of this. After speaking with him I found out that the main supervisor had already told him to do this about an hour and a half ago and the Zone manager, who spoke with me, had already told him to do it.
Here is another problem. This Zone Manager decided to find another employee to finish the job instead of taking the original employee aside and explaining to him the situation. Well any way I made up my mind that I was not going to take care of this responsibility for him. About 30 minutes later here comes the Zone Mngr and begins to crawl up my ass about the issue. By this time I am smoking hot.
A little time had passed and I then have a customer come up to me and ask for help with the T.V.'s. No big deal, I help him out. A little more time had passed and I am still with this customer and one of the associates, that was working with us, decided it was time for her to return to her department. I then get an associate who tells me that there is a customer who was needing a Ipad2. No big deal. I finished up with the customer who was looking at the T.V. and I went over there. Before I got over there I asks the associate where was my help at. Their reply was that they had not seen them in awhile.
When I get over to the main electronics department I find that I have walked into a crap storm. I head for the lady who wanted a iPad and attempt to help her. I then get another customer who said that they needed help at the video games. No big deal right? I explained to him that I would be right there after i got this customer their iPad. Well apperantely that was not good enough. He began to wine like a 2nd grader at the water fountain about he was here first and that I should be helping him. So trying to keep everybody happy I went to the games first.
Here is where the crap hits the fan. As I was walking to the games I could believe how childish a grown mid 40 year old man could act. I then shook my head from side to side in disbelief. That customer felt it was his duty to open his mouth and run it to me. He under no uncertain terms said to me "Don"t shake your damn head at me Boy". Well that was all I needed. The customer, who apperantley was having a bad day as well just lit the match on a short fuse. I immediately stopped in my traces and turned to him and got up in his face and stood there. When I say that I got in his face, I was about 3 inches off of his nose. I never said a word, I just looked him in the eye and waited to see if he had anything else disrespectful to say. By this time the adrenaline is pumping. The gentleman never said another word. I figured this was a bad situation to be in and I needed to get away as fast as I could before it escalated and I went to jail. At this point I knew I had two options. 1 hang around and get fired or 2 turn my badge and keys in and walk out on my own terms. I chose 2.
I had always hear about these types of customers who felt that they could talk to an employee like this. One of my pet peeves is being treated like a slave by other people. I am nobodies door mat. I stand up for myself and my values. I will not sell out my values or my integrity for any job or anybody, PERIOD!
