Archery season opened here today, although I have a pocket full of tags didn't make it to the woods this evening. My Bro and I got together after work and shot from 10 to 60 yards at a target in my field than shot some unknown distance as well. Was happy with my shooting out to 50, couldn't say that a few days ago so feel much more ready to go after them this weekend. While shooting behind the house we had 5 deer come past at a hundred yards on their way to the bean field. Stalked them later for practice and of course got busted by an old doe just as we got into range. Did however find a good place for a stand so will be moving one this weekend closer to the house where 3 trails come into the bean field. Frosted heavy here this morning, beans are wilting so the big boys better beware I'm about ready to hunt them hard.

You have a lot of patience Grizz, waiting on those whitetails like that. Will be looking forward to some canon shots of your biggun.

Truthfully I'm lacking tremendously in patience Kt but I"ll do my best to bring in some pics this fall. I cheat time in the stand every chance I get by going about my work on the farm with a constant eye on the deer and the signs they leave behind. Always taking in info from the neighbors, mailman and those going to work early morning such as my wife. It is hard for me to sit in a stand very long early season as I'm staring all my farm work right in the face while passing the time. Normally do a lot of very s-l-o-w still hunting during Oct and first week of Nov than force myself to sit in tree stands for two weeks mid Nov. Over the years I have placed about a dozen stands that stay in place year round and are in those real productive areas so when the rut begins I will have stands that are ready without disturbing the deer.
With the Canon I plan to use a holster type camera bag and place it in my hunting back pack along with a couple garbage bags in case of bad weather. Thinking about mounting the 55-255 mm lens and may carry the 18-135 too , depends on weight and how energetic I am. I have not took this camera "hunting" yet so don't know what to expect. I'm thinking the 5 double ladder stands I have will be the most productive with the camera as I can spread out and be ready. If I do carry the Canon I should be able to shoot deer with it that are out of range for the bow and it may be nearly as rewarding.
