So we had the car into the shop to get some service work done on it as we will be making a long trip for Christmas. We stop buy to pick it up and my wife drives it home. When we get home, I ask her how it drove. Fine, she says, except the "Check Engine Light" came on on the drive home. Man, I thought. What a conspiracy. Ya pick it up from the shop just to have something else go wrong. Now I'm in a panick. We've got to make a long trip and the car seems to be malfunctioning. So of course I pop the hood on the car and check it out. Nothing but one sensor of some kind after another. One feels pretty inadequate at this time. So I start calling around, trying to get the car into a shop, any shop, to find out what the problem is. Sorry was about all I heard. We are booked till so and so. To late to make my trip. So I dig out the manuel. Heaven forbid one should ever have to do that. Anyway, I read a little about the check engine light and its ramifications, and most of the scenarios don't seem very good. One part though, mentioned that the light could come on if the fuel cap was loose or bad. I thought, ya right. So I popped open the fuel compartment door. The gas cap was loose. I tightened it up and went into the house. Told my wife the problem. Oh! she says. I just gassed it up before I left town and headed home. Well, I told her, that could be the problem. But the book says you may have to drive it a few days before the light goes back off. So now we got to wait longer yet to see if that really was the problem. Man, all this is really getting on my nerves. So Friday my wife gets back home from work. Guess what, she says. The light went off. Unbelievable. All this over a loose gas cap. What next, the dipstick facing the wrong direction. Urrrrrr
