It's been a long wait this year to get on the birds, rain all thru late August and 1st half of Sept, a week ago it snowed, had frost twice in the week before that. Birds showed up 3 wks early for this area, the farmers were spooked about laying down crops if they ever got the chance to, one hell of a lot of birds in the area. Late last week it finally cleared off and got dry enough to get into the fields to cut them. And in the area I'd been watching, the birds had been building. There were likely 25,000 specks, 5000 Honkers,40-50,000 pins & mallards in a 20x15 mile area. With all the rain, there are a huge number of ponds, in places that people have been farming thru for years. Most of the birds were feeding in the field they were roosting in. There were maybe a 1000 snows in the area, so, we set up an all white spread with an e-caller to see if the snows would suck the specks in, that didn't work too well, at least on the specks. Worked well on the snows though. Attachments:
