this year in North Dakota. Just found this info posted on there webpage. The last two winters have just been brutal and the antelope numbers have suffered horribly because of it, as has most other game. I'm surprised that anything has survived the last two winters. I Can't disagree at all with the F & G's call on this season. Sure hope we have a milder winter this year.

Sorry to hear that kind of news, heard the winter was very bad up that way but had no idea it had hurt the population of large animals. You did have high numbers of antelope in the recent past with generous tags being sold didn't you KT ?

We maintain about 10,000 animals or so as they are pretty much confined to the western part of the state. But tags are generally available most years. Estimates right now are about 6000 animals. Have seen some young ones this spring and summer, so thats good news.

Thats not good. Do you know what the herd size was prior to the bad winters? Or wht they estimate the population at now? It's pretty bad when ya have to cancel a season due thw weather or winterkill. Sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear that. Our annual spring count is about 10,000 animals. This spring it was down to 6000 animals. Hopefully will have a milder winter this year and the numbers will rebound some.

That definitely is a big dent! Yeah hopefully the winters will ease up a bit.

Kt, since taking a trip through parts of the West I can say that I did not see near as many Antelope in ND as we did in other areas, this may have always been the case or just luck of the draw. We saw hundreds of antelope in western SD while on I90 and the numbers almost seemed higher to me in Eastern Wyoming. We saw a LOT of antelope around Grey Bull and East of Cody, in Montana they were few and far apart and ND we saw just a few. Was wondering if your winter was alot more severe in your area than SD and WY?, I know here 100 miles can make a huge difference in temps and snowfall so looks like it very well could there as well.
