Well a nice walk with the dogs this evening was goin great! We went up on the state land above the house,to take a nice walk after dinner. I figured we'd hear some gobblers on the roost. So it was a good excuse for my girlfriend and I to walk the dogs. . Well it started gettin dark,we were just about to the end of the line. When i hear something walking in the leaves just off the trail. I knew it was either a racoon, skunk or porcupine?? Hopin like hell it wasn't 2 or 3. Then i saw it and Sadie was just up the trail. She came back full bore headin right for the pin cushion. I tried to stop her. At one point my leg brushed up against the spiney dude.I was trying to put my foot up between Sadie and the now irritated little s.o.b. I then jumped over his back and grabbed her. Luckily they weren't sunk right in or it would have been worse, with the needlenose plier's. Her paw was worse than her face. About 40 quills in all. Had one dead center on her nose. And as labs are she was to dumb to feel them. ;D ;D ;D! So smart, but yet so dumb!!?? ;D ;D I forgot to take pics of her paw's. but believe me way worse. Oh i was mad!

Oh she's okay. I use to coon hunt years ago. The old timer"s hounds use to have the occasional run in with porcupines. He would get out needle nose pliers and work them out.I took them out and hopefully put enough triple antibiotic on the them it should be no issue. I did however realize I did brush him enough.I had 3 quills in the side of my hiking boot. one stuck in the lace and two near the toe into a seam.

Sure glad she is OK Scott. That is always a very scary thing when that stuff happens. I always carry my leatherman along just for those kind of emergencies. One of my buddies has a GSP. She got into one a few weeks ago to the tune of a $350 vet bill. Not just those labs that can get into trouble.

My buddy said ,"man she must have been yipping in pain!" Nope she never yipped once or whined. When it happened or when I took them out. She was irritated by them. But when she realized i was taking them out.She just relaxed, like when i do her nails.Funny as heck1 Today she had no signs of infection or swelling. But I bet the next time I yell to her to stop while runnin somethin down, she'll stop on a dime! Unless its a winged goose of course! ;D ;D ;D!! oh i got a new nickname for her,PINHEAD!! ;D
