This was my first dog. Sadie was a yellow lab and had a great deal of field trial in her with some confirmation. I do remember that she was high strung but was easily trained and handled as long as I was with her. If anyone else were to deal with her, the other people had a hard time controling her. As a result she was accidentally released from the backyard fence by my father and was murdered by a man at the age of 14 months. This dog was the best hunting dog that I have owned to date. At 6 - 8 months she could be controlled with a whistle and hand signals alone. This made her great at blind retrieves. Sadie was one of those rare dogs that, to date, I have only seen one of and I am not so sure if I will ever see another animal like her. The bond that we shared was something else. She had only made two hunts for water fowl before she was killed. The man that killed her was traveling in his truck at around 50 mph in a neighborhood that was posted for 25 mph. I was told by my dad, who witnessed the murder of my dog, that this man never slowed down. The man that killed my dog was well known by our family, I grew up and played with his son. Later I was told by other residents in our neighborhood that this man, Jim Clay, was well known for killing dogs with his vehicle. Jim never came to me and apologized or anything else for that matter. I seen him several years later at a local Wall-Mart with his wife. I called him everything but a white man for what he had done to my dog. I was escorted out of the store by the police that day for causing a seen and threatening him. Her name was Sadie. Sorry for going off on that story, but I am still very bitter about that. Sadie meant the world to me. I was only 18 years old and she was the first dog that I had ever owned. I worked for two full summers to save up the money to buy her. I worked my but off reading books, taking classes, I even higher-ed a professional trainer to work with me so that I could train her the right way. I have some pics of her and I will send you some photos of her. I have to scan them into my computer though.
