Being new to the site i guess first i will give a quick look back at the 2008 hunting season ..
as excited as i could be for bow season to only be two weeks away i found myself piling up gear and clothes and getting everything ready checking twice and three times ... calling the local boys i know and getting all the info on where and when our stands would be at this place and that place.... waking up every morning going to work and couting down the days until i was sitting in the air in a peaceful calm over looking some field or waterhole... and then it happened.
Returning from first break at work i walked back into my welding booth where i had just finished the bottom half of one of our larger trailers that i weld... great time to flip the trailer over for the other half... I hooked up the chains lifted it in the air grabbed it and began to spin the trailer hard so it would flip in one good movement... BUT .... the trailer was a little uneven on the chains... at least that was my guess and one corner cought the chains the chain bent and then straightened back out and when it did it sent the trailer spinning in the opposite direction as i wanted... taking my arm along with it for the ride
After a few trips to the doctor and a MRI it was on to shoulder surgery for the two librel tears in my shoulder.... there goes bow season
October finally arrives im out of my sling and moving my arm pretty good but still not good enough ... my doctor advices against putting a shotgun or muzzleloader to my shoulder... or to pull my bow back unless i could do it left handed which.. by the way i am no good left handed .. so we compromised..
i scoped the old 357 taurus and headed into the woods for a 4 day antlerless hunt... On the third day as me and a buddy was walking out of the woods he looked at me and said shhhhh ... there they sat 4 doe about 250 yards away across a field... we dropped our gear and headed in a circle around them where we could stalk up closer.. Hopefully for a shot.. It was dead silent... so the stalk was slow.... but we had made it... all the way up to about 100 yards away and they still sat there grazing.... would have been perfect for my buddy to shoot only one thing... the stalk took so long there was not enough shooting light left... We sat for a moment and made our way back to the truck to await the regular gun season.
Less then 24 hours before leaving for deer camp for the november gun season my doctor released me to full duty at work which also ment i was at full duty for hunting ... Out came the .50 cal ... and off we went
it was a hard hunt consisting of a 9 day gun season 10 day muzzleloader season ... first weekend we really didnt see much and to my surprise did not see alot of hunters out... We did our best and went home empty handed... second weekend .... everything we saw was on the run ... or we seen it from the truck ...
into muzzleloader season i decided to ask a friend to sit in his blind out on the farm and he gave me the ok ... Got in the blind about a hour before sun up ... and until 9 o clock all i saw was the grey squirrels that made me think of a good chili recipe i know.. All the sudden i heard the twig break behind me... and i eased my head around... here she came a nice big bodied doe heading right for my back ... and then ... she was gone... I could not see her anywhere... So i got comfortable relaxed and sat about another 45 minutes... All the sudden off to my left i seen the big bodied girl walk out and following her was two smaller doe... i watched her for 15 or 20 minutes.... till i finally pulled the .50 cal up and went to put the iron sight on her... She was only 3 or 4 feet in the brush but it was thick so i waited... she finally gave me a very small window of a shot... i eased the trigger waited for the smoke to clear and watched her happily prance away probably laughing about the hole i had put in the tree next to her...
O well you cant get em every year right ....
So now back home and season over it is ice fishing time... and when spring time hits it will be time to mold my nephew who will be alowwed to hunt for the first time this year into a little hunting buddy ... as he is all ready my favorite person to take with to the pond fishing ... so until next time ..... cheers
