Is there fences? If the awnswer is yes, then I say no. Not fair chase if they are fenced in no matter how much land there is.

It's your choice and I imagine it could still be quite a challenge but the answer for myself would be, NO!

I'm obviously a big turkey hunter. And even though I've never hunted elk. I have learned how to make elk calls, bugling and cow. I have videos and a cd with actual elk vocalizations. Kind of how I learned to call from them. I have friends who go every year. My question is. Is it as much of a rush as turkey hunting? Or is it more exciting. From what I've heard it is almost the same concept. Repositioning and more repositioning. Someday i hope to get the thrill in the bigger hills. Think I probably wouldn't want to leave the elk woods, like I dont like to leave the turkey woods.

Even chasing small bulls is an awesome experience if you have never done it before.

I just can't imagine what it would be like. But if I were to go it would have to be free ranging animals. Just wouldn't want it any other way.I think I'd get more satisfaction out of taking a bull that had been hunted by others.

I would love to try it some day. As far as fair chase goes, fences take it way. I'm not saying it will be any easier thou. Good luck Just the same. Keep us posted on how the hunt turns out.

i agree with ghost..... if there are any fences then no its not fair chase.... no fences and whatever animal your hunting has the choice to come and go as it pleases then its semi fair chase...... true open land self guided in my opinion is fair chase ... but like i said thats just my opinion

If these are free ranging animals then it is fair chase! Fences kinda put the damper on fair chase, but Good Luck either way! I know they have populated them in Eastern Ky. but I don't know if they live in a fenced in area or not (don't think so), but not sure.

Hey Whitetail23, I don't know the particulars of this ranch but if they have enough room to run and hide then it's fair game. I see some hunts on TV that they just walk out into a field and shoot grazing animals and call it a quality fair chase experience. No way! Here in Washington on the west side it's public land hunting with lots of cover, timber, and hunters. They still seem to find a way to evade most of them. Nothing better than watching a herd of elk bed down around you in the ferns and taking the herd bull at 45 yds with the lead cow only 15 yds away. Good luck and straight shooting!
