I've heard they work great, especially after a good freeze then it warms up, nice and soft eatin, squash another option I've heard of using carrots as well. I think if a person is going to bait try to make the food a varied as possible, and don't make a huge out of control pile, keep it small, the idea is to draw deer in not feed them for life, feeding is another issue

I had never heard of using pupkins till I went to Green Bay Wisconsin and saw it at work. There is some sort of high fenced refuge there and during the winter folks throw pumpkins over the fence to feed the deer. You can sit there at dusk and watch the deer tear em up. Sure wish I could hunt inside that fence cause there are some dandies in there.

A few years back, somebody did just that, shot a big boy that was behind the fence. I can't recall if they ever caught the knob, but I would like about 30 seconds with him.

Kahuna, It is the sanctuary. Now every time I go up I have to go visit it at least one evening to watch the critters. They got some real nice ones in there. I believe someone told me every so often they have a bow hunt in there to thin em out a bit. Is that true??
Regarding the person shooting that deer, I guess the idiots are everywhere. Sure hope they caught the sucker.

How do you dispense the peanut butter? I have a buddy who uses tomatoes. I thought he was leaving them for the farmers use. Until, I noticed there was always one bite taken out of 'em by Mr. Deer...

If I wait till the first frost it may be January before i can try this out on deer.... Now for the peanut butter,,man I could start some chit here.. I have heard of "" nevermind,,,I wont go there We have some corn mix here called crazy corn,, it works it has corn peanutes soybeans and some other things,, the deer love it but so do the hogs... Tim

Peanut butter, many use it but i think the coons get most of it. A lot of folks will nail the lid to a tree, screw the jar on and cut the bottom out.
