Well, I finally found some time to break away from everything and get out and scout some of my plots of land I'll be hunting this year. I brought along my 870 20 ga. just in case I saw a squirrel or two. I did have one cross out in front of me (a big fat grey) and he was about 35 yds and runnin. Didn't want to take that shot with the 20 low brass so I passed. Saw a bunch of chipmunks and heard lots of squirrels. Just no shot opportunities presented themselves. Man it was hot out there today. Bright and sunny and with all that clothing on and hiking up those ridges made matters that much worse. But I took my time quietly and patiently through the woods. Jumped a good sized deer on my way in.... within 2 minutes of getting out of my vehicle which is always a great sign! Couldn't tell what it was. It was bedded down in a little hedgerow that was only about 3-4 feet wide that divided two open fields. It let me get within 2-3 feet before it spooked!! Almost chit my pants. Funny how that gun still points so quickly and steady when somethin jumps right beside me. Well anyway... here's some pics I took of my little trip out in God's Country:
This is the field I set up in on opening morning of NY turkey season. It's about 75 yds square and the birds were roosting right on the very edge to the left. I had birds gobbling everywhere around me that morning!:
Good staging area with beds and a few runs going through it that runs into the field above:
[glow=red,2,300]Found this sucker while scouting through the hardwoods. Guess where I'm hangin my stand come bow season??[/glow]
Almost stepped on this little guy:
