Won't be too long and it will be time to get out and look for some sheds. Just thought I would share a few photos until sheds start to drop. This is the very first shed I ever found. It scores 85 6/8 and was found January 6th 1989. This is my youngest son Aaron last spring with a few of the sheds he found during an outing. This stack is about 1/3 of what I have found. There are two mule deer sheds in the bunch, one being off a 40" wide buck that I bought off a guy from Montana. The rest are whitetails. Chris

Iowashedhunter...your name fits perfectly!!! That is a very impressive collection. I'd be very happy to find one like your first shed. The first time I went shed hunting a friend took me. He kept telling me not to be dissapointed if we didn't find any. Well, in less than 5 minutes I held up my first one...a very palmated yearling, about the size of my hand. My friend started getting red in the face and sputtering "It's NOT that easy!!!!!" He was right...my next few trips out were a bust. It must have been beginers luck.

I've been pretty lucky over the years to hunt good areas. I still have good areas, now I just have more competion. Ten years ago I never saw anyone else in the woods, now even on my private areas I deal with people sneaking onto the land. That first shed was a fluke. I wasn't even looking for sheds when I found it. In fact it took me quite a few years to top the first one I found. I took my girlfriend this year and she found 10 sheds her first year and a good buck. Here is the buck. Chris

That's funny that you mention the look on her face. She's not liking the smell of it, he was pretty ripe. I ended up carrying him for the rest of the day.
I believe he was shot and not recovered or died from the rut. He was too far off the road to have been hit. There wasn't much left of him when she found him.
She has taken the hunter's safety course and will be late season muzzle load hunting coming up in a few weeks. It's her first time hunting ever, she wants a big buck. I'll just be happy if she is able to harvest a good doe the first year. Knowing her luck she will probably put a good buck on the ground.
