GF, I know you don't want to hear it but at 10pm the Drury's had an awesome show on Iowa whitetails. I'm very excited because my zone 5 Iowa tag just arrived in the mail and that show had me pumped!

My favorites are Jay Gregory from the Wild outdoors, the Primos gang from The Truth, the Drury productions, Jim Shockeys show and there might be a couple more I forgot. I also like Lee and Tiffany Lakosky(sp?)and Don and Kandi Kisky. These shows are real people hunting wild animals. A couple I don't like are chasing the dream with shawn chatam and keith warren from hunting with keith warren. These two jokers are always hunting inside cages. I know all these shows aren't on TNP. Well sir... your little statement about Keith Warren "always hunting inside cages" is a long ways off base! Apparently, you don't know much about how hunting is done here in Texas! Do you even have a concept of how big 2000 acres is inside a "high fenced" cage? Keith hunts those places, because he is INVITED to hunt them. And in some cases, his SPONSORS tell him to hunt those places. You don't think that the "Primos gang" hasn't hunted inside high fenced ranches or Jim Shockey? Think you had better dust off your TIVO!

I'm not insulting Keith Warren, but the fact of the matter is he does hunt and film inside high fences or "preserves", no offense just a fact, and I do know how big 2000 acres is. As far as I know Primos does not hunt in preserves or Shockey so I'd like to know where your getting your facts from? Maybe I'm wrong, does anyone out there keep track of which shows are filmed inside "preserves" and which ones are really filmed in the wild?

Well it's Tuesday the 13th......and here's my take on a couple of things tonight. Dream Season......I do like the competions....like the stand hanging....and last week the run and shoot competitions they have.....adds something to the show. Was that a bow shot deer that went head over heals on Primos? I was being interupted by my better half during part of the show (not trained and that's an 'ole dog I'm not sure will ever learn any new tricks )....but I did see a buck take a summersault and I thought it was a bow shot....straighten me out if not......I've seen that with a rifle before....but a bow? One other observation from tonight....I see Jim Zumbo and the pictures that are taken after each animal he takes.....can you imagine how many pics there must be of him with game he has taken over the years.....must be enough to cover every wall....of every room...of any house you could hope to build!!! Lucky SOB!!

I'd like to chime in on this "high fence" debate. Obviously this is one of those topics that are very sensitive to each individual.
Personally, I could care less how large the area is, I will not, nor ever have taken game from a "penned" area. Make no mistakes when I say "penned" I know fully what I am saying.
One of my dearest friends OWNS a high fenced lease down in South Texas..3,000 acres. He has spent over $400,000.00 to get this place rolling with feed, breeder bucks, semen, artificial insemenation efforts, fencing, ranch..the works. He invited me down last year to help him take some 140 class "CULL" bucks off and I refused (graciously).
This runs right along with the "hunting over bait" topic.
But at least hunting with feeders, the animals still have a chance. 3,000 acres is HUGE and I have been to this place to "video" his bucks and let me tell you, these animals are MUCH easier to "pattern" after a few years. 3,000 acres again is huge, but make no mistakes about this. When they are "penned" your chances of taking a world class buck depend on two things.
How much money you have How much time you have.
Sooner or later a monster buck WILL come in. It is not a question of if, but when. Hunting free range there is NO promise, hunting high fenced leases there is a promise.
I have no idea how many hunting shows are taped on high fenced lands. I would assume at some time, with free invites and the chance to show them taking a world class buck..all shows have at some point or another.
But in my opinion, and this is JUST what this is..one hunters opinion. High Fenced leases are for Doctors, Lawyers and other "high class" individuals who dont' want to take the time to manage their land and scout the game. They want to pay upwards of $10,000.00 a hunt for a weekend or two a year and reap the rewards that those hunters who hunt free range work their tails off for.
My opinion.
The ONLY (again, my opinion) good use for a high fenced lease is for those hunters physically impaired, kids who have life threatening diseases and those who for physical or mental reasons simply cannot hunt the tried and true old fashion way. Everyone else can get their butts out there and work for their trophy.
Again, not pointed at anyone in particular. Just my humble opinion..take it for what it is worth.

I love seeing that! Did you see Adventure Bound Outdoors?? Man, that dude shot a great 9 point with that double barrel side by side with a perfect behind the shoulder shot! Impressive in my book to do that wih that type of weapon!

Hey texasrack...Hunting high fence is no different than hiring a guide for a public land hunt to take you to your kill. How do you suppose that hunting guides know where the animals are located? The guides have "patterned" these animals for years and almost always know when and where to take their clients.
Those hunt areas, for the most part, are relatively small, consequently, the guides chances for success are over 95%. To force the animal to leave its natural territory is almost unheard of, it's somewhat like an artificial barrier or "high fence" if you will. When elk or caribou migrate, they do so only in familiar territory and in the same patterns.
So the economics comes into play here also... $4000 to $5000 for a guide to take you to your kill? You say it's fair chase.... is it really.
Seeing that you're here in Texas.... you should know the restraints we have on our hunting. Most of the time, all we do is sit in our little boxes waiting for muy grande to come by... and we get to pay $1000 to $5000 per gun to do that! No wonder people think we are nuts.
It's always been the case in this state... that the more money you have the bigger the "trophy" you get a shot at. The largest ranch in the state - the 825,000 acre King Ranch - is not high fenced, but they offer you the chance to shoot a $20,000 buck!
I do share with you one concept.... my idea of "high fenced" hunting is for exotics ONLY! The chance to hunt an animal that I otherwise would never have the opportunity to hunt.
High Fenced ranches are a major business that has it's place in this and other states. You take one trip south of Interstate 10 and west of Interstate 35, and virtually every mile you see nothing but HIGH FENCES. Most of us will never get to hunt for a trophy buck on one of those operations. But there has been more than one HUNTING SHOW HOST that have visited them, because they get the "special invitations".

high fenced hunting has no place here in Indiana it has been banned.and that is what the sportsmen of this state wanted and got.and how can a hunt area be relatively small?i have been to Pike Co. ILL.please show me were a guide can take me on public land for a P&Y whitetail and i will have a 95% success rate?i may have been hunting on 2000 acres in pike co.but the county is not fenced in and is probably around a million acres.thats small?in the hotel i stayed at in pike co. there were 40 hunters of which 5 took P&Y bucks.not exactly 95%.
