Hey guys, I'm gonna sticky this thread and have it here for us to discuss the Tuesday Night Pursuits on The Outdoor Channel. Since a lot of us here watch it, I figured it'd be a good idea to chat about the programming they had on for the night.... For example... did you see the "Dream Season" tonight? MAN! Talk about some brutes!

I lose out to my son on Tuesday night TV, so I normally do the early morning weekend shows on OLN & like to watch them, if I'm not out partaking of my own adventure! The one thing I have noted about several of the shows though... it seems like some of them are hunting on "pay to play" farms...

I know... it does peeve me to see that these big ass bucks are being taken that most of us will never see in the woods because of the "pay to play" factor. But I have come to terms with that and accepted the fact that if I had enough money I'd probably do the same thing On the same note, I would much rather watch it just to get me pumped for the upcoming season. If there were more shows that maybe showed a small basket rack being shot or a good doe I think it would be more realistic and I could respect them more for it. I'm just like everyone else out there who likes to watch these big ol racked bucks being taken but let me say this.... Just down the road from my family's place in 3 Mile Bay there is a local farmer that has a penned in area with all sorts of game in it. It's about 100 yds square and has lot's of feed in it. At any given time of the year you can drive by there and see these huge elk, Big Racked Whitetail deer and Stagg deer penned up inside. This guy has an arrangement with an Outfitter that's just a few miles away to "grow" these animals to trophy size. Once they are considered "trophies" he ships them to the ranch where sometimes they are shot that exact same day. The just release them into the woods on the ranch and at that point these deer are pretty much tame. I mean you can walk through the woods on a stalk and they'd probably walk right to you thinking it was time to eat! To me... that's not hunting and I'm sure a lot of these programs on T.V. go to ranches that do the exact same thing. I mean I'm sure it's hard to consistently provide quality trophies to paying hunters so why not take the easy route and farm raise them and feed them to the wolves so to speak. I've seen it so I know that it happens and these guys that pay $5,000 a whack think they're great hunters B.S.!!! Not saying that all of the shows are like that because you can tell that some just aren't. But don't think for a second that some of the programs you watch are falling under this exact situation.

I agree that there's a light side & a dark side to it. I love seeing them to & I'd prefer to see them in a wild setting (TV?) but if I had the money to go pay to play... I'd go to friggin Alaska to hunt a Moose or a Kodiak Brownie before I'd go to one of the local pen raised farms. We've got them right here in Ohio where you can pay by the inch of antler measurement & they have pictures of their penned sire bucks.....

My favorites are Jay Gregory from the Wild outdoors, the Primos gang from The Truth, the Drury productions, Jim Shockeys show and there might be a couple more I forgot. I also like Lee and Tiffany Lakosky(sp?)and Don and Kandi Kisky. These shows are real people hunting wild animals. A couple I don't like are chasing the dream with shawn chatam and keith warren from hunting with keith warren. These two jokers are always hunting inside cages. I know all these shows aren't on TNP.

I also am rather fond of tiffany lakosky Kandi Kisky aint bad either. Two of my favorite TV hunting personalities to be sure! I was watching the Buckmasters last night on OLN. they had a guy hunting in Texas. Watching a 10 pointer that would easily gross 170+. Had to wait for the management buck to get into the field so he oculd shoot the "little one" I understand how this works, you get what you pay for. Pretty sure I would not be happy about letting that brute stroll off. Funny part was the big buck kept running the "scrub" off the field back into the bruch so the guy couldn't get the shot. Finally all worked out. Pretty funny unless you are the one being tortured!

I have met tiffany at work before, the camera doesn't do her justice, she is a cutie.
You guys need to get The Another Year On The Ground Series of tapes from Double Bull Archery, they whack them all, jakes, does, basket sixes, watch it and take a look, they don's pass too much.

Never miss TNP.....and I agree that some shows are obvious (to me anyway) that the deer are "conditioned" to come to a area for feed or walk out in the open as if they have forgotten about using their senses......but I do watch as it is the best fix (except for this site.....sucking up!!!!) to give me my "fix" while I wait for hunting seasons to start.
Once in a great while I'll hear/see something that I tuck away to try in the woods....like using a predator call which might bring in a bear....never really considered doing that before.
I would like to see a show dedicated to new "potential" hunters.....a show dedicated to information about scouting....sign......scrapes...rubs....a real "learing show" for those that might be interested in hunting but have not had the benefit of learning from Dad...or a friend. How to plant a food plot has plenty of coverage but the basics of any of the hunting sports seems lacking in basic information.
I'll get down from this soap box for now.
Will Primos and the gang are one of my favorites and yes Gob-Father I did see that shot and camera work.... it was excellent.
If Tiffany looks any better in person.....I'd have to have a muzzle to keep my mouth from flying open....and a bib!!

YE-----------------HAW!!! How bout them Texas boys tonight, all kinds of footage from their wildlife eye, the bobcat was cool.... the first big eight was SWEET!!! The hunting from a telephone phole was weird but it worked, maybe some of you fellers can now see from the underbrush and the Lack of a tree over 8 foot tall, just how hard it is to hunt deep South texas.... Most of the brush down there is so thick you cannot see ten foot into it, and as a general rule !! If your in South Texas and out in the brush everything has few things in common.. EVERTTHING out there can either bite you sting you or just plain make you bleed!!
Congrats Shack and Bartos...
