I must be crazy to get in on this one. I dont see how they could compare. I hunt with both but a deer with a bow is a true trophy a deer with a gun is just dinner. I dont care if its a 400 yard shot. I then start thinking ethics and thinking about a small flinch and wounded deer. I may be wrong but ,,I will stop Tim Let me add into this to clarify myself. People say that they shoot 3d to become better hunters. I have done that myself. All the more shots you get out of your bow improves accuracy along with your ability. I hunt with BOW MUZZLELOADER, PISTOL and RIFLE just like most other folks. I hunt harder with abow than anything else. With that being said, I also shoot several hundered rounds from my rifles each year which I figure makes my skills and accuracy better just like shooting 3d. I CANtell you what each gun is capable of whith each bullet and the limits of each gun, each bullet, and my personal limits as wee, in whatever weather conditions of whatever gust of winds. I ahve deer hunted for around 25 years and have filled my tags and freezer almost every year, AND HAVE YET (KNOCK ON WOOD) lost a single deer that I have shot. Yes I have missed a untold number of deer with bow as well as a few with a gun. Every deer I have killed has been in the utmost sportsman like conditions and respect. I have killed them right under the tree to my longest shot being @ 400 yds. The key to this whole rantting of mine is only perform within yourown personal and your equipments limits and to do this you have to put the time in to find those limits and capablities. Kehl

MGCC, I agree with what you are saying 100% I do know an have seen people take shots that they or the gun is not capable of . I have also seen people shoot deer and hogs in the butt ,guts and there can be alot of factors to this, If you can make a 400 yard shot and place it well then you are not unethical. I guide hog hunts from Jan till May. You would not believe the stuff that I have seen. I didnt mean to say you are unethical making a 400 yard shot and I apoligize if it came out that way. I have seen bad shots by both bow and guns its not fun. I am not perfect I have made poor decisions myself a time or 20. To me I can make a 400 yard shot with my 7mmmag and I know I can drop what I am shooting at. I also can shoot a deer at 50 yards with my bow , will I ? I dont know I am more confident at shooting and making a good shot at 30 yards. Like I was saying, I just have seen alot of idots who think they are hunters make some poor decisions and always have some excuse. meanwhile the deer or hog is suffering in the woods and I believe a quick solid kill is better then a slow painful death by not being able to eat. I can sound like a arrogant son of a witch sometimes and I dont mean too. I just know that to me a bow kill is more of a trophy to me then a gun kill. I am not trying to down gunhunters at all. I do use a gun at times. Sorry again if I sounded like a know it all or snooty a@@. Tim

I like hunting with a gun more than a bow. But I do like shooting a bow since i've hunted with one for 35 years. I may get back to bowhunting. I just bought a bow recently. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I to would rather kill a Big deer with a bow. but I love the challenge of makeing sure that everything is set up just right and using the skill that I have gained by placing that bullet just right. The sae thing goes with a bow.

Guess thats why i would choose a bow hunt over a gun hunt. It's the thrill of getting myself in close to them. With out being detected.Though i feel i can confidently make 50-60 yd shot with my bow, doesn't mean i have to.I have friends here that tell me it is unethical to make over a 40 yds shot. And we do some target practicing together,i range out 50 and 60 yds,and set the target back. Most everyone of them are unable to hit the target. They never practices out to that distance themselves. There is alot to be said about knowing your and your weapons limitations. In the western states 50 60 yd shots are more common for bow hunters than here in the midwestern states.

Well, in order for me to accurately display my true "dream hunt" and preferance therein I have to know one of the most crucial aspects of this question... "How many deer we talkin about here?". In other words... if I know there is a good population of deer and the chances of me ACTUALLY getting a close encounter with a big buck are common like you see on the boob tube then I'd like to say that I would like to do so with a bow. More for the mere fact that it's primative in it's own way but if we're talkin the deer numbers are average to low then I'm all for bringing a .50 cal that can reach out to a mile just to put some meat in the fryin pan.

I hunt with a gun and a bow, but if I had to pick one or the other, I'd take the bow hands down.

Yea, wasn't it you that sent me that sniper video where they're taking them out over in Afganistan with a 50 caliber?? That was a wild video on the amount of damage that gun can do! I'm only kidding on the deer hunting aspect but I wouldn't mind knocking down a cape buffalo with one... ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) That 50 BMG will kill, gut and quarter your deer with a single shot. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)
