The very first rifle I ever bought to hunt deer was a Weatherby Vanguard in the .30-06 cal. I picked that up mainly to hunt PA with, since NY's southern zone doesn't allow the use of rifles. I have since sold that gun to my cousin's husband when they moved to Pittsburg, Pa. Now it looks like we might be able to use rifles in certain counties. The Bill has passed both houses by a wide margin, and just needs Pataki to sign it!! I hope he signs it soon, I want to buy a new gun and have it sighted in way before the season strolls around!!!!

Mine was a 870 Remington 12 gauge pump with a side plate scope mount that I killed my 1st deer with but my first hi-powered rifle was a military A3-O3 in 30-06 that was sporterized with a stock & scope.

My first rifle was a Savage 7mm Mag. And my first shotgun for deer was a Mossberg 500 w/ bird barrel but accurate as could be with that thing!

Like everyone will write 30-30. The youngsters might be a little different with the the .243 and the 6mm. Good old Marlin from Wal-Mart got it when I was 13 years old!

Marlin Lever Action 30-30..Although later I moved on to a Winchester 307 Big Bore I can honestly say that that 30-30 never once let me down

Mine was a rem in 243, with 3x9 on it. great little shooter. I think it has been the first deer gun for about 9 of my family members.

My first rifle that I got a deer with was a borrowed 8mm german mauser. It was a military gun with a big sight that flipped up for long range shooting. It worked on my first deer and I was damn happy to be able to borrow it.

My first rifle was a rifle that was passed from my grandfather to my dad and then to me... It is a Remington 308 semi auto woodsmaster that was bought from Sears many moons ago... First time I took her out I put a deer on the ground.... I have a three year old son that will get the rifle when he turns 16 just like I did....

my grandfathers left me two guns. An old Winchester bolt action 22. and a Belguim made Browning A-5. They were small game hunters. I was too young to learn much about hunting with them and then they quit going when I got old enough to go. I think the stories fo guns handed down through the generations is pretty awesome. I think the strength of this country is based on the family unit. In this day and age it is just refreshing to hear of solid families rather than the crap you see on springer and reality TV!!

I have 7.65 mm Argentine Mauser that I bought 30 years ago when I was 17 or 18, can't remember it's been so long. It was cut down and sporterized with a Weaver 4X scope. Ballistically it's the same as a .308, or close to it. I still have, but don't hunt with it any more. Getting ammo is always the problem. Norma was the only one that made decent ammo back then. Ah, memories...
