Where would you place your stand in this pic?

I've set up in the two red circles the last two times I went out. The Red Square indicates where I'm thinking of hanging my stand today. The Green outline indicates where I have permission to hunt. The orange circle indicates where I've seen 2 does bedding and the blue dots indicate where I've seen deer so far. I'll be hunting this probably between 12:30 and 4:30 today.

;D I'm thinking, if the map is laid out North/South & that's a road that runs down the South East corner, I'd park down there & work my way up to where hopefully a major deer trail comes out of the woods & into the field that the 2 does were in. I like where you've got the orange dot in the fence row to. I always like being at the Eastern edge of the woods/field edge for the evening hunt!

It looks as if you have a few fields in your grounds. I would try setting up a stand on an inside corner of one of these fields for an eveining hunt. Deer are lazy and will cut these inside corners when givin the chance. Just my 2 cents worth best of luck to you!!!

GF, I would do like bbbh suggested or I would put your stand just to the left of the red square in aline between those two fields near a good run by that dark stand of trees! ;)Bill

What is planted in the fields? And how far along is your rut? We are finding the acorns are holding the deers attention more than anything, you may find your buck inthe woods munching away! i like you selection for this evening, but I would investigate the NE corner of your southernmost field, if htere is any contour to hide that corner from the road, That could be a real winner, depends on how hidden it is from the road!

Well, I didn't see anything today in the woods. I did make my way close to that spot I originally thought I was going to hang my stand. But when I got there it just didn't feel right. It was very open with tall standing pines. Lots of blow downs which made for good cover and bedding but I've got a feelin that if anything was bedded down in there they were long gone by the first snap of a twig on my approach there. So I went a little sout and to the east of that in the middle of the hardwoods just off from where two logging roads split off. Seen some older rubs in there and man... was it thick in there. The swamp is just off to the east of there and is damn near impossible to hunt it right now. Too thick for a shot and very muddy and wet in there.

To answer your questions:

Biggie... the orange circle is definitely holding deer! 2 Doe to be exact. I'm planning on hunting about 20 yds off from the trail coming off from that spot into the field. There is a nice rub on a tree that is right next to the run that leads into that field to the left. Also, the pic does run North/South.


Middie... the fields are alfalfa and clover. Just south of the orange circle is standing corn. And the field directly to the east of the red square is standing corn as well.

Tomorrow night I plan to hunt by the orange circle. I think I might know right where those does are gonna come out too. I need some meat in the freezer so they have been identified as my primary target for now. I even know about what time they come out... 5:20 p.m.

Gobb ,, I would find the hardwoods if any is tall enough, I would go in about 20 yards,, to a good tree that will let you see in the field and also back in a ways . I would hunt with the field on one side and deep trees on the other . By saying this not your back to the field or edge or to the forest where they may feed out ways. I would try to pick a funnel ,,/trail that is consistent and good and move 20 yards either side. Unless the deer are rutting,, which they may be getting close there. The bucks probably will not use the same trails as the does at this point.. Tim

I would have to say the circle also, knowing they are there, or at least should be, Then knowing time roughly, go stick um!!! Good luck!!

GF.....one place that struck me when I looked at the map without "paying attention" to your other marks....is the square I oulined in purple below:



Not sure what your access is to this area......or what is in the fields either side of this strip of trees......but it looks like this piece is something I personally would have to check out.

I agree with RodNGun. That strip of woods separating the two small fields between the woodlots I think would be a good spot, especially on the south side. The deer from both woodlots should be using it to travel back and forth. During the rut I look for these types of funnels. They usually concentrate deer activity. And, if there are some hardwoods in the strip so much the better.

If I'm remembering correctly here... I think that strip of woods you guys are talking about is only about 20-30 yds wide... but even so.... good point... I think I may place a stand up in there at some point this year!

Here's where I'm thinking I'm going to hang my stand throughout the season. I think each spot should produce deer but whether or not while I'm there is another story. I've included what fields are what and also the property across the street that I can hunt as well. It's a smaller plot (which is what I like while bowhunting) and one that I haven't even stepped foot in yet. Here's the aerial with new info:

That was the first place i noticed too. I also think that were the red rectangle in the top right is looks like a good place.
