What's your favorite wood and why? I like Zebrawood, Cherry and Red Cedar at the top of my list and Morrocco Burl is one of the most beautiful I've seen IMO. The Zebrawood has always been a favorite for both looks and sound. Although I'm showing a fondness to Sycamore/Pecan, more and more!

I love Curly Maple...For beauty it just pops!!!...But for sound quality I found it almost impossible to beat good Ol' Butternut...it has perfect tonal qualities in my opinion but is pretty bland to look at...

My favorite wood to turn for pots is osage orange (AKA hedge apple) in our part of the world and also Bocote. They both turn great and finish as well. You cant go wrong with Hard Maple to turn for strikers, they will run great on anything along with osage and purple heart.

I too like Alaskan Yellow Cedar over Southern Yellow Poplar, or Alaskan Yellow Cedar over Butternut. Walnut and Purpleheart work well over Southern Yellow Poplar also. mike
