I'd like to take my Rem 1100 12 ga. and modify it to fit a new style of deer hunting I'd like to shift to this fall, i.e. scoped. Actually I'm planning on putting a scope on all of my guns.
This is what I wanna do. First I'd like to get a monte carlo style stock in black synthetic to match the gun. Secondly, I'd like to get a cantilever scope mount barrel (rifled) and thirdly, I'd like to find a good 4X variable scope for it.
That being said, here's my dillema.... First I'd like to know if anyone has a good, relatively cheap (don't want to sacrifice quality though) source to purchase these modifications. Seems as if most (hastings & remington) clsm barrels are priced at $185 and up. Then when you add the price of the stock and scope you're talkin almost the price of a new gun. I wouldn't mind going used so long as the barrel was clean and undamaged. Any suggestions?
These specs are close to that of an 1187 minus the 3" capacity. I'd like to have that option but the 1100 is only chambered for the 2 3/4". So, in anyone's opinion would it be just simpler to buy the new 1187 or is there a way to get my 1100 where I'd like it to be for under $250 (not including the scope of course)?

Buy a new shotgun...Never can have to many... ;D Check with Ithaca they are now making replacement barrels for several different gun manufacturers and sell for around $170.00...Thats a little bit cheaper...Don't over look Nikon Scopes...they are a little cheaper then Leopold but the quality is about the same...Or you can get a Bushnell scope for less then a $100.00 and they hold up pretty well... But if it were me I'd buy a new shotgun so I could jump up to the 3" shells...

Gob Father why don't you go to a gun show and find a good deal on Remington 11-87 3" 26 barrrel and then but a cantilever barrel rifled barrel for it.Then get the monto-carlo stock for it.I do not know how much it would cost you.I have heard of some really good deals on the Remingon SPS Cantilever fully rifled barrel shotguns with the monte-carlo stock.I have a Remington 11-87 SPS-T Camo MOBU with a 21" cantilever barrel with a Kick's Gobbling Thunder Choke tube for turkey hunting.I am getting a matching Cantilever fully riflred barrel for this shotgun and it is camoed to match as well.I have thought about getting the monte-carlo stock but I do not think it is worth the cost.I would get a matching Beartooth stock raising kit.It has inserts to adjust the comb of the stock. And you can get it in black or camo. Here is a picture of my turkey gun.

Gob finding a used slug barrel for a 2 3/4 1100 might be kinda tough. The plastic is easy. Have you thought about the new specialty bolt action slug guns? Some of the guy's around here are having really good results with these in 20 ga. It is said that the 20 ga. has better accuracy and is all around better ga.Just a sussestion .Might be worth looking into.

I don't know if you want to stick by a autoloader, but H&R single shot shotguns come in slug guns, they are dirt cheap, reliable and last forever, and from what I hear, shoot pretty good. I also know from friends of mine that the rifles from H&R shoot as good as your average bolt action.
Anyways, just a thought

If you do decide for a new gun, the March 200 Field and Stream recommended the Mossberg 935 Turkey ($480) and the Charles Daly Maxi-Mag Turkey ($480) Both are camoflauged autoloaders and can shoot up to 3 1/2 inch shells. When I used to work at a shotgun range, both guns were very reliable, but also somewhat heavy, especially compared to an 1100.
