I am going to be getting a ruger mark II 30-06 around Christmas. I am unsure about which brand of scope I would like to get for it and what power of scope. I have pretty much narrowed it down between a leopold or a nikon. Most of my shots would be inside of 100 yds, but some possibly extending to about 200-250. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd at least strongly consider a Sightron SII 3 x 9 x 42.

At the 150 -200 price range, I would also recommend Sightron SII series. If you are willing to up the $$$ to $350, I suggest and recommend the Nikon Monarch UCC in the magnification of your preference. If you are wanting the best "hands down" deal on a 30mm main tube variable, Nikon's Monarch Gold's cannot be beat IMHO. Up to a 42mm, 50mm, and 56mm objectives available and excellent brightness and clarity at 30 minutes past dusk. The cost is $450 to $635 but these darn scopes perform equally to my $850 Kahles and $1100 Schmidt & Bender. I do not know if Nikon knows what they have with the Monarch UCC and Monarch Golds but they are $1000+ performance good. Word of caution: a scope that is $250 more than a different $250 scope is not 100% better. Sure, a $1350 Swarovski has great low-light performance but I contend that it is a mere 1% to 5% "better" than the Monarch Gold. Of course, that's just my eyes. You will have to use them and decide yourself. - Sloppy Snood
